Elegant Golden Roses Birthday Card

February 8, 2016

Card FrontMade by Mary Prasad for the ECD Susan Tierney-Cockburn Design Team

Hello crafters! Mary here with an elegant gold and white birthday card featuring beautiful roses and a wreath made with dies from Susan’s Garden Club by Susan Tierney-Cockburn. This card could easily be made into one for a wedding or anniversary just by changing the sentiment. The new Garden Notes Grapevine Wreath Round is the perfect decorative piece for cards and other projects.

Making the Card

1. Cut white cardstock 5 1/4 x 10 inches; fold in half for a 5 x 5 1/4 inch card base. Go around outer three edges with Tibet Gold FineTec Artist Mica Watercolor.

2. Die cut two Grapevine Wreaths from white cardstock. Add Tibet Gold to parts of one. Shape by rubbing ball stylus along outside branches on both pieces. Adhere wreath with gold to card base. Add the second wreath, oriented so the branches will be offset (not lined up precisely on top of the first wreath).

3. Die cut label (Katie Label Pivot Card) from white cardstock. Go around edges with Tibet Gold.

4. Die cut Happy Birthday 5 or 6 times from white cardstock. Glue all but one piece lined up on top of one another to form a thick stack. Paint edges of stack with Tibet Gold. Try not to get gold onto the front or back of the stack as the glue won’t stick as well to the paint. Adhere the final (white) piece to the top of the stack.

5. Die cut white cardstock roses in two sizes using Garden Notes – Rose 2 and the mini roses from Garden Patch – 1 1/2-inch & Mini Roses die sets. If you want fuller roses, just cut some extra petals. Shape petals and leaves as shown in the video below (cut leaves off stem – discard stem) and assemble flowers. Paint edges of petals and leaves with Tibet Gold. Arrange and adhere roses and leaves as shown. Note: I used Kids Choice Glue – it dries quickly and works really well.

6. Adhere gold beads in clusters as shown. Note: I used GemTac glue to hold the beads. (It’s formulated for securing non-porous surfaces like beads or gems to porous surfaces like cardstock.)
