Pop it Ups

Velvet Daisy Card

April 24, 2014

Hi – it’s Karen Aicken here  and today’s share is a Pop it Ups Daisy card using Velvet Adhesive Sheets. I love these Elizabeth Craft Designs Velvet Adhesive Sheets – what a fun way to change up your die cuts! The dies cut through them like butter, and I like the soft velvety feel and look.
I’d like to walk you through how I made the daisies. Step-by-step instructions for the card follow.

In the photo below, you can see I cut the silhouette (solid) image from the yellow Velvet Adhesive Sheet, and the overlay (outline) from the white.

As I was about to push out & discard all those white interior pieces, I decided to try attaching them to the yellow base instead of the outline. It was easy to do, I placed the entire white outline over the yellow base, and pulled off one piece at a time. The backing peels off easily, then I re-inserted the piece into the matching space where the adhesive held them in place.

When the daisy was done, I attached the remaining white velvet daisy overlay to another silhouette.

That gave me two velvet daisies to use on my card, one the negative image of the other.

The next thing I wanted to try, was inking … with just a sponge and dye based ink I was able to add some additional shading to these lovely velvet daisies.

I also inked the leaves and stem, which were all cut from a green Velvet Adhesive Sheet.

To create the card:

1.  Cut white cardstock, 4-1/2 x 12″ and score across the center to make a 4-1/2 x 6″ top fold card. This is the ‘inner’ card.

2.  Cut two pieces of patterned paper, 4 x 5-1/2″ and adhere them inside the card leaving a white border.

3.  Cut a piece of Kraft cardstock , 4 x 5″ and score across the center for a 2 x 2.5″ folded piece. Adhere the Kraft piece in the center of your card as shown.

4.  Line up the Lots of Pops die with the center fold and run through your die cut machine. This gives you the pop-up platforms to attach the decorative die cuts onto.

5.  Cut a 4 x 11″ piece of patterned paper and score across the center to create a 4 x 5-1/2″ top fold piece.  Attach this to the outside of your card leaving an even white border on the outside edges.

6.  Adhere one velvet daisy and two velvet leaf die cuts to your patterned paper and the card front is finished. I chose to add doodles with Tombow Markers along the border.

7.  Cut five grass pieces from a green Velvet Adhesive Sheet using the grass die  from the Stand Up Helpers set. You can see that these dies score the bottom edge – but that gives you a perfect line to cut along with scissors. Also cut 5 from white card stock and adhere the velvet grass pieces to the white cardstock ones. Ink all 5 pieces with a sponge and dye ink to add some depth.

8.  Using the Clouds/Foliage from the All Seasons Tree, cut three from a White Velvet Adhesive Sheet and attach them to the card as shown.

9.  Adhere the daisy and leaves to a scrap of transparency and fussy cut leaving a narrow border. The transparency adds stability to your die cut and catches the light as the card is turned.

10.  Attach this piece to the largest ‘bump’ on the Lots of Pops area.

10.  Attach the grass pieces to the Lots of Pops platforms as shown.

11.  Cut the Thinking of You from Green Velvet Adhesive and ink the bottom edge for an ombre look.

12.  Adhere the words to your card as shown. (Note, I added some dots with a Tombow marker first).

13. Add  dots and doodles along the borders if desired.

Very nice. I have yet to try a pop up card

    • Karen Aicken April 24, 2014 at 8:37 am

Thanks Marge! Pop it Ups are SO easy – all the measuring is done for you. You get to choose the size of card (they work perfectly on a standard 4-1/4 x 5-1/2″ A2 card). One pass through your cutting machine and you have your platforms for popping up your images. Karen Burniston has several YouTube video’s you can check out as well, to walk you through how each one works. Once you start, it’s hard to go back to making flat cards!
