A Birthday Card Suitable for a Man!

June 6, 2014

Hi, It’s Kelly Booth here. Do you also find it hard to create a masculine card? I was playing with the Oval Accordion Card Die by Karen Burniston and came up with an easy birthday card suitable for a man. I used the Elizabeth Craft Designs Balloon Peel-offs and water colored them with my Tombow Dual Brush pens and a water brush.

Here is the Front:

And the card opened up:

1. Cut 4 oval accordion panels from black cardstock and before removing them from the die, trace through the stitched lines with a signo white gel pen.

2. Cut the centers out of two of the panels and cut the tabs off leaving a stitched oval frame. (These will be used to go on the back and finish off the accordion card).

3. Cut one yellow accordion panel and cut out the center oval for your sentiment.

4. Peel off one set of balloons from the Balloon Peel-off sheet and place it on a piece of Elizabeth Craft Designs Watercolor Paper. Place the Oval Accordion Card die over your Balloon Peel-off to see where you want to cut. Make two little marks with a pencil and then cut around the top of the balloon with an exacto knife. Lift that piece up on top of the die before running it through your die cutting machine to cut out the oval. You only want a little bit of the balloon above the oval or it will not go through the card when opening.

You should now have pieces that look like this:

5.  Watercolor the balloons with the method of water coloring you like best. I used Tombow Dual Brush Pens and a water brush.

6. Stamp your greeting on the yellow oval in black dye ink.

7. Adhere the balloon oval to one of the oval accordion panels using foam tape or pop dots.

8. Adhere oval with greeting to the second accordion panel using the same method.

9. Take the two whole panels and place them side by side with the long side tabs on both panels facing to the right. Put a thin strip of Elizabeth Craft Designs double sided adhesive on the small center tab and the long side tab of the first panel. First  attach the side tab to the back of the adjacent accordion panel and make a valley fold to get the fold in.

10. Attach the small tab to the back of the adjacent oval and make a mountain fold. Give it a good press to get the card folding right. Then snip off the small tab of the oval on the right panel and trim off the long side tab.

11. Take the two stitched oval frames and adhere them to the back of the card covering up the joints. This makes the card look more finished and makes it sturdier.

Now your card is finished!

I hope you have enjoyed this card today. I have a feminine card of this one on my blog today.
