Making Gift Cards from Scraps

June 20, 2014

Hi! It’s Kelly Booth here. If you’re like me you have lots of scraps lying around from previous projects.  Mine usually end up all over the place before they hit the trash. The new Character Die sets by Karen Burniston, coming out mid-July, are a perfect way to use scraps and make gift enclosure cards. Tip: If you can’t find envelopes sized to fit, use an envelope punch board or open an existing envelope and use it for a tracing template.

Here are photos of the new die sets:

To create the gift cards:

1. Die cut two solid bodies for each character out of a color cardstock you would like to use for your characters. I used white cardstock for Chilly and Poppy and green cardstock for Hoppy.

2. Lay one of the bodies on your score board and score about a 1/2 inch from the top, like this.

3. Put adhesive on the back above the creased line and adhere the second body part to this.
The back will bend and have the creased line and your front will remain flat. Here is a photo of what it should look like.

4. Decorate the fronts using the rest of the fun dies included in the Character and Props Die sets. I had some paper scraps that had Silk Microfine Glitter polished onto them and it was perfect for the Props die cuts. (Bow on Poppy, glasses on both Chilly and Poppy, and Hoppy’s lips and mouth!)
Chilly was created using some leftover scraps of Velvet Adhesive Sheets in  Black, White, Yellow and Red. To jazz him up, I cut some glasses from a scrap of paper with Silk Microfine Glitter polished onto it.

Hoppy was created using a piece of leftover cardstock inked with distress ink then water splashed. I used the lips from the Props set for fun.

For Poppy I used pink cardstock scraps and cut some glasses and a bow from the Props set out of Fuchsia Silk Microfine Glitter scraps and then added some glittery black pearls for her eyes and pink pearls for accents on her bow and glasses.

What do you think? They are so easy to create and a fun way to use up some of your scraps.

Thank you for stopping by the blog today. I hope you have a wonderful day!
