Oh Sweety Lilac 1 060115

Hi! It’s Christine Pooler from Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s Design Team. Spring is here in Maine and so are the oh-so-sweet-smelling lilacs which made me decide to feature the lilac from Susan’s Garden Notes collection. I also used the stamp Let Us Be Grateful from her Seeds of Thought collection. I got the idea for this one flap easel card from fellow crafter, Sharon Hashimoto Burkert, and I loved it.

1.  Card Base –

a.  Cut dark purple cardstock 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ and white cardstock 4″ x 5-1/4″. Punch all 4 corners of the white cardstock with any corner punch or the ECD Tags dies and ink all the edges.

b.  Attach the white cardstock to the purple cardstock so as to have even edges all the way around. (Be careful when adding adhesive to the left side of the very top 3/8 from left edge, 1/2 inch down from top – area where flap will be attached – and up 2″ from the bottom where the die will go. You do not want adhesive in these small areas.

c.  Place the Hello Stand Up Helper on the left side of card base 2″ up from the bottom of the white cardstock. Tape in place as shown below then die cut. It may take 2 or 3 passes as you are cutting through a couple layers of cardstock. Trim off the white “Hello” leaving the purple “Hello” as your stand up helper.

d.  Stamp right side of card with Let Us Be Grateful stamp. When stamping sentiment, be sure to allow enough space on the left for the flap.Oh Sweet Lilac 5 060115

2.  Flap –

a.  Cut dark purple cardstock 2-3/8″ x 4-1/2″ and score at 1/2″ and 2-1/2″.

b.  Cut light purple cardstock 2-1/4″ x 3-7/8″.

c.  Cut white cardstock 2-1/8″ x 3-3/4″.

d.  Ink all edges.

e.  Adhere the white cardstock to the light purple cardstock.

f.  Adhere Transparent Double-Sided Tape to the 1/2″ section of the flap on both sides.

g.  Adhere the flap placing the 1/2″ section between the purple and white cardstock 1/8″ in from left edge.

h.  Adhere 3 strips of the tape on the lower 2-1/2″ section of flap and adhere the light purple and white cardstock to this section, lining up the bottoms.

3.  Lilac –

a.  Using Susan’s Garden Notes – Lilac die:

  • cut 4 branches from white cardstock colored with brown PanPastels
  • cut 2-3 leaves from white cardstock colored with green PanPastels
  • cut about 50 petals from white cardstock colored with purple PanPastels
  • Note: You can use colored cardstock if you prefer and still shade with PanPastels.Oh Sweet Lilac 4 060115

c.  Add a touch of violet PanPastels in the center of each petal and then a tiny spot of bright yellow green tint PanPastels in the very center before shaping.

d.  Shape petals by placing petals on molding mat and pressing small metal ball tool into center of each petal cupping it.

e.  Take 2 branches and glue 1 on top of the other using a clear-drying glue. Do this for the other set of branches then add shading with brown Distress Ink. Cut apart 1 of the branches, cutting at an angle, so that you can have 3 branches with 3 lilacs heads.

f.  Place the leaves face down on the Leaf Pad and with the leaf tool from the All Metal Tool Set, make a center vein in each leaf then pinch each leaf forward along the vein line. Lay the leaves on the Molding Pad face down and using the small ball tool, rub the ball over the very tip of the leaf curling it back slightly giving it a natural look.

g.  Adhere your whole branch to the white cardstock on the flap using a clear glue (Art Glitter Designer Dries Clear Adhesive used here.) Adhere your branch piece at an angle so it looks like it belongs.

h.  Start adhering petals to the branches – building your lilac head – until it looks similar to the ones shown below.

i.  Adhere your leaves.
