Pop it Ups

Pop it Ups Wednesday with Sandy – Tea Time

February 17, 2016

Hi, it’s Sandy Diller here to share a gift I made for a friend who likes tea.  I constructed this box, with a drawer, using chipboard but you could do the same thing with any box, simply by covering it with patterned paper. The top folds flat for mailing and then pops up for use in the kitchen.  I combined the Hanging Charm Pull Tab die with the Cup Pop Stand to create a cute and useful gift.

Here’s how I did it.  Let’s get started!

From die # 1104 The Hanging Charm Pull Tab cut:

  • One base and one tab  – cut base again from coordinating color & set aside center section (shown in pink above)

From die # 1103 Cup Pop Stand cut:

  • One cup (pink)
  • One steam (vellum)
  • One spoon (not pictured in photo above)

From die # 917 Clock and Gears cut:

  • One clock face (ivory) and one set of hands (brown)

From die # 1117 Fitted Circles cut:

  • One circle for back of clock (brown)

From dies # 967 Alpha Caps & # 1075 Lower Case cut:

  • The word “Time” (brown)

Position the design from Coffee Stage it Stencil S001 across the top of tea cup. Hold stencil in place with low-tack (painter’s or washi) tape as shown in the photo above. Use a palette knife to apply light color modeling paste for a raised pattern. Lift stencil straight up so pattern won’t smear. Wash and dry off the stencil. Set aside the cup to dry.

Slide the base and the T shape pieces together, crease on score line and then glue together, gluing only on the lower section.

When glue is dry, slide the T section back and find score lines.  Pinch at score lines so folds are established.

Glue solid circle to back of clock face so numbers appear in sharp contrast.  Pierce hole in backing piece and add clock hands using a brad in the center to secure them.

Add glue as shown in the photo above and glue clock in place.  Add double sided foam tape to hold cup in place.

After attaching steam, add another strip of double sided foam tape and position the cup on the card in front of clock.

Add lettering and stamping.

When decorated top part is completed, add to box.

Add spoon and small hand-cut tag using twine.  Add tea bags. Wrap the gift.
