Hello there, Sanna here again with my first March project. I have recently discovered how much fun it can be creating your own home décor objects. I like to make practical things with a purpose besides looking good, hence, a savings bank made from a box as an altered object. I can use it to hold money I’m saving and it is a pretty accent for a mantel, shelf or table.
1: I first took out my Gelli Plate, some stencils and acrylic paints and created random, layered gelli prints. When I do this, I always make several at once to have enough material to choose from and to use on various projects.
3: I then chose a gelli plate print and used both the Fitted Squares and Fitted Rectangles dies to cut 6 pieces with the smallest square die, one piece with the smallest rectangle die and 2 pieces with the 3×3 inch square die.
7: Back a book page with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet and die cut branches, numbers, hearts and flowers. See the supply list for the names of the dies that I used. TIP: Save all of the leftovers from the gel print and the book page – you’ll need them for the project I’m posting on March 24!
8: I had some alphas left over from a previous project (For the Love of Squares) so I used those for decorating the house walls. Next outline the windows, doors and walls with black and white pens to add contrast and interest.
10: Add white ink splatters onto all sides and use a small round cap and a credit card to create additional detail with black acrylic paint. When the white ink splatters are dry, add some black and white ink/paint droplets onto the roof for a fun detail. This is the finished project:
In case you would like to create the same kind of savings bank for yourself or as a present to give someone, you could repurpose an empty milk carton or a candy box. And if you don´t happen to have a Gelli Plate to create such bold colored papers, why not grab a few of Els’s Through the Lens papers. For example: the Metal and Wood Series would be a perfect match for this project!
Hope you get inspired to create an altered project yourself!
