Window on an Embossed Wall Card

Mary here today with a fun window card. I was so excited when I received the new Garden Notes Carolina Window & Shutters die set by Susan Tierney-Cockburn; I just love windows for cards! I’ve been waiting to use it for a special design – I didn’t want to just do the standard Christmas window with wreath (although they do look great) or a window with curtains. I finally decided on a monochromatic white design, using recycled plastic packaging for the panes of glass. I also love how the embossed wall creates a wonderful textured background.

Note: the colors used for the flowers are not ones found in nature.

Making the Card

1. Cut white cardstock 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches; fold in half for a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch card base.

2. Cut white cardstock 3 7/8 x 5 1/8 inches. Emboss with Flower Mosaic folder. Adhere to front of card.

3. Die cut from white cardstock: 2 window frames (you won’t need shutters – keep them for another project), 3 sets of vines, 4 sets of flowers (32 total). Shape leaves by drawing a line down the middle of each. Shape petals by drawing a line down each petal and then rub in the middle of each flower with a ball stylus. Press just a little on half of the flowers (base); on the other half, press harder (use the smaller ball stylus) to create the center petals (these cup upward more than base flowers). Stack center petals on base petals, gluing offset so petals on base layer are visible between petals on top layer. (I use Kids Choice Glue for all my flowers.)

4. Using scrap leftovers from one of the windows as a template, place it just higher than center on the card. Draw a pencil guide line a little inside the template (do not draw shutters). Using a craft knife, cut window into front of card inside guide line. You want a lip on which to glue the frame but not enough to show beyond the window frame. Draw a similar guide on a piece of clear plastic packaging using an alcohol based marker, like a Sharpie. Cut along guide with scissors. Glue plastic on back side of one window fame (trim if necessary). I used Gem-Tac Glue for this. Glue to front of card, covering hole. Glue remaining frame inside card to give it a finished look.

5. Adhere one vine starting at bottom left below window as shown. Leave branches free (don’t glue them down). Cut bases off other vines and glue them starting under the first vine so it looks like they are all one vine. Trim apart as needed.

6. Adhere flowers as shown. Adhere one white pearl bead in center of each with Gem-Tac Glue.
