Hello friends, it’s Annette Green today of the Susan’s Garden Club Design Team with a 6″ x 6″ pop-up card especially designed for my Mom this Mother’s Day. You can change up the stamped sentiments so this card can be for anyone on any occasion. My Mom seems to love and cherish the handmade cards I give her. She has a box full! She studies each and every detail and really seems to enjoy receiving them, and because of that I always love to make her really special ones.
The front of my card features Susan’s Garden dies: Garden Patch and Clematis & Ivy. I used El’s van de Burgt’s Stitched Ovals die and Susan’s “Sunshine and Love” stamp.
The inside of the card holds a lovely surprise. This pretty 3 dimensional Garden Bench die from Karen Burniston’s Pop-It-Ups, plus more of the Clematis and Ivy to match the front of the card. Now let me take you through the steps to make it.
- Cut Rust Soft Finish Cardstock 6″ x 12″, and two pieces of coordinating papers 5 3/4″ x 5 3/4″ each. Lightly adhere the papers to the cardstock with removable adhesive to hold in place. Lay the Garden Bench die across the fold line (secured with removable tape) and run this unit through your die-cutting machine. I found that two passes through the machine ensured a clean, complete cut through all the layers.
2. Gently peel up the pattern papers for now. Follow Karen’s helpful video to fold and shape the garden bench properly.
3. This is how the paper pieces should look once die cut and trimmed, as explained in Karen’s video.
4. Cut a front for your card 6″ x 12″ and fold in half.
5. Adhere the Rust cardstock and the card front together, then adhere the two pattern paper pieces back into place. Add a 1/2″ strip of decorative paper for a border on the card bottom. (Later I adhered another strip to the top panel as well.)
6. Die cut two stitched ovals, one larger than the other, from decorative papers. Stamp the sentiment with brown ink onto the smaller oval. Ink edges, if desired, with a brown ink then adhere the ovals together.
7. Cut a coordinating decorative paper 4″ x 4″, die cut Rust cardstock with the Garden Patch die and adhere these together. Fussy cut a decorative element from coordinating paper for embellishment.
8. Layer elements on your card front, adding another pretty 1/2″ strip at the bottom.
9. Follow Susan’s video on how to create the pretty Clematis flowers and the stems (about 8 minutes into the video). I chose to color mine a soft pink with a yellow center.
10. Adhere one set of the Clematis to the card front in the upper left corner above the ovals.
11. Add the second set of Clematis to the inside of the card behind the garden bench.
12. Die cut lots of ivy leaves and score down the center with the leaf tool in Susan’s tool kit.
13. Adhere the grass from the Garden Bench die to the base of the garden bench, then adhere the ivy leaves as much as you like.
14. If desired, you can cut another set of the Clematis for the lower right corner of your card’s inside. Add a stamped sentiment to the inside and a small doily or any other embellishment you wish. Your card is done!
