You’re So Sweet Carnation Thank You Card

July 8, 2016

Hi, Annette Green here today to share a Thank You card using Susan’s Garden Notes Carnation die. Each time I create with Susan’s dies, I do a Google image search of the specific flower for visual reference, then print out several of them together on photo paper to keep in a notebook. When searching for carnation images, I came across a bi-colored yellow-red carnation that was very dramatic. Let me share how you can make your own and add it to a pretty card.

Carnation-Thank-You-Annette-Green-021. Create the carnation by die-cutting all the pieces twice as shown above. I used Buttercream Soft Finish Cardstock for the petals and Olive Twist SFC for the stem and leaves.

Carnation-Thank-You-Annette-Green-032. Adhere two stems together to give them body and strength. Apply yellow PanPastel to the centers of each petal.

Carnation-Thank-You-Annette-Green-043. Color the outer edges of each petal with red marker, then draw quick strokes and speckles with a slightly darker red marker.
Carnation-Thank-You-Annette-Green-054. Shape and soften the petals as directed in Susan’s post. Adhere one large set of petals to the top of the stem.

Carnation-Thank-You-Annette-Green-065. Continue adhering petals, alternating position as you build from largest to smallest. Set aside to dry. (I like to assemble my flower separately first, but you may find it easier to assemble it directly onto your card.)

Carnation-Thank-You-Annette-Green-076. Cut a card base for a 5″ x 7″ folded card. Cut two pattern papers  4 3/4″ x 1 7/8″ for each piece and one 4 3/4″ x 3″ piece. Ink edges if desired.
Carnation-Thank-You-Annette-Green-087. Join pattern papers together with clear tape on the back side, then adhere washi tape and ribbon trims as desired across the paper seams, folding over excess to the back.

Carnation-Thank-You-Annette-Green-098. Die cut papers and cardstock: two nesting ovals from the Stitched Ovals set, and one from the Fitted Ovals set.

Carnation-Thank-You-Annette-Green-109. Adhere the unit from Step 7 to the card base, then adhere the oval unit with foam tape.

Carnation-Thank-You-Annette-Green-1210. Adhere the assembled carnation to the ovals, adding the additional leaves to the main stem.

11. Die cut two photo corners and three flowers from the Tags & More 1 – Lace set and adhere. Add adhesive-backed half-pearls.

12. Stamp sentiment on white cardstock and adhere in place with foam tape. Optional: Ink edges of the rectangle.

Carnation-Thank-You-Annette-Green-1413. Adhere pattern papers and cardstock to the inside of the card and stamp the word “Thanks!”
