Fall Candle Base

August 29, 2016

Hi everyone, it’s Annette Green today with Susan’s Garden Design Team. Even though Florida is rather hot and humid this time of year, it’s Fall in my craft room. While strolling through my local craft store the other day, I came across realistic-looking scented candles with battery-operated wicks. This is what inspired me for my project today.

I created this Fall candle base for my battery-operated candle to sit upon. I’d love to share how you can make one too.

Fall-Candle-Base-Annette-Green-021. Paint a square and round wooden base with desired paint. I used a medium brown acrylic paint. The round base is the perfect size for this flameless LED candle I purchased at my local craft store.

2. Top each of the pieces with patterned paper, cut to fit. Adhere the two wooden pieces together with strong glue. Set aside to dry.

3. Add lace around square base with strong glue.

4. Cut several leaves from White Soft Finish Cardstock using the Woodland Leaves dies, then colorize as desired with various inks.

5. Use the Leaf Tool on the Leaf Pad to score vein lines on the leaves. Use the Fine Point Reverse Tweezers to pinch and shape each one.

6. Cut the Marigold pieces from desired cardstock. To add interest, die cut the leaves in various shades of green.

7. Blend a deep orange color onto the centers of the marigold flowers. I created my marigolds using three large and three smaller petal pieces and one stamen piece, as shown.

8. Shape the petals with the Loop Tool on the Mini Molding Pad, then pinch and shape them with the tweezers. Assemble the center piece by rolling it up with the tweezers and secure with glue.

9. Adhere flower pieces together, turning each layer to offset the petals. Continue the steps to make two more marigolds.

10. Snip the long stems off the leaves. Shape each leaf on the Molding Pad with the small end of the Ball Stylus, then score a vein down the center of each with the Leaf Tool on the Leaf Pad.

11. Die cut several mini Chrysanthemums from desired cardstock.

12. Stir each flower piece with the small Ball Stylus on the Molding Pad, then adhere the flower pieces together to create several mini chrysanthemums. These will serve as filler flowers.

13. Begin adhering the marigolds on your base. A hot glue gun is fast and easy. (You can add embellishments like tiny pumpkins or acorns to dress up your candle base too.)

14. Adhere the Fall leaves, then work in the mini chrysanthemums as desired.

15. Adhere as many of the green leaves as desired to fill out the arrangement. (Note: since the LED candle’s On/Off switch is on the bottom, the candle can’t be glued into place. It’s important, therefore, to keep the round base clear of any embellishment so the candle can be lifted easily and then sit flat when replaced.)

16. If desired, add some burlap, decorative paper and twine around your candle.

Now I have a pretty home decor piece for the Fall season!

There’s something very satisfying about making your own realistic-looking flowers out of plain cardstock.

I added this butterfly on one of the back corners.
