Hello everyone. WOW, Labor Day already. Where did the summer go? Christine here from the Susan’s Garden Design Team with my first Christmas card this year using several of Susan’s new releases. You must visit Elizabeth Craft Designs to see all the wonderful new dies, stencils and stamps, plus all of the other fantastic products they have.
Let us begin!
Card Base:
- Cut White Soft Finish Cardstock 6″ X 12″. Using Susan’s new CountryScapes Snowstorm & Mounds stencil and light blue ink, stencil mounds on lower 3/4 of card base. Use Shimmer Brush or Wink of Stella to go over lines to give it a shimmer (Shimmer Brush used here, hard to see in the picture). Let dry.
- Cut dark blue vellum or cardstock 12″ X 3″. (My vellum happens to have stars on it but plain would be fine.) Tear approximately 1/4″ across bottom of vellum. Brush torn edge with Shimmer Brush.
- With dark green or black ink and Susan’s new Evergreen Grove Stencil, stencil trees across vellum strip and let the ink dry. If using vellum, be sure to use an ink that will dry on nonporous surfaces and allow to dry overnight if needed.
- Attach vellum piece to top of card base using Clear Double Sided Adhesive. Score card base at 3″ and 6″; fold on score lines. Card will now be a Z-fold.
- Stamp sentiment in lower right corner using black ink and sentiment of your choice. ECD has some nice sentiment stamps but mine have not arrived yet so I used something from my stash.
Making Elements:
- Cut 2 sleighs from black cardstock using the new CountryScapes Country Sleigh die; cut again from silver cardstock. (You really only need to cut lower part of sleigh from silver as you are only going to use the runners.)
- From one of black sleighs, cut along the seat line which will form a pocket for packages. Do not cut all the way off, you are just making a pocket for packages. (see photo)
- Glue 2 black sleighs together with the pocket-cut sleigh on top. Make sure not to get glue into the area forming the pocket. Glue silver runners over black runners. (see photo)
- Make mini packages and bows using small scraps of paper. (Note if you do not have a die for bow and packages just cut small squares for packages and make your own bows from 1/8″ ribbon, ore use small ready made bows from the craft store.)
- Glue an extra bow and a piece of greenery to the front of the sleigh.
- Cut reindeer from brown cardstock using Susan’s new CountryScapes – Critters 6 die set. Color hooves, nose and eyes with black marker. A little Liquid Ppplique was used on tail and chest giving those areas some extra dimension. (Liquid Applique puffs up a little when heated.)
- Cut 3 dark brown or black cardstock harnesses using Susan’s new CountryScapes – Farm Accessories 1 die set. Fit 2 around the reindeer’s neck until you have them in position where the reins will fall to meet the sleigh. (I placed sleigh on card base temporarily while fitting harness to get it lined up correctly.) Trim off little pieces that stick out. Once in place, adhere to reindeer using clear drying glue. From third harness cut curved piece and fit to the already-attached harness, filling gap. Glue tiny rusty bell to neck area of harness. (Note: Twine or tiny leather strips could be used for harness) (see photo)
- Using Susan’s new CountryScapes – Build A Father Christmas die set, cut hat and coat from red cardstock, fur trim from white, face and hands from flesh color, boots from black, belt from light brown and sack from green. Ink edges and assemble using a clear drying glue. Attach a tiny strip of brown or black cardstock in his hand then add tiny rusty bells to strip with clear drying glue. Use a piece of twine for a tie on the sack, black marker for eyes, white Liquid Applique for the beard and eyebrows, and a white gel pen for fur on the front of his coat.
- Use a thin line of glue to adhere a little Diamond Dust on the bottom of sleigh runners, reindeer hooves and Father Christmas’s boots.
- Using dimensional tape for dimension, add sleigh to front fold, reindeer to next section (lining up reins with sleigh and using a little clear drying glue to hold ends of reins in place), and Father Christmas close to fold on third section (first half of 6″ section to ensure that he is hidden under other folds when the card is closed).
- Use a yellow marker to stencil a moon onto white cardstock using Susan’s new stencil Earth & Sky, or hand-draw your own. Cut out the moon. Attach to card in upper right corner. (For added sparkle I used Shimmer Brush on the moon.)
