Annette Green here today with Susan’s Garden design team to share a fun Halloween decor project. I recently received a whimsical (and tasty) bottle of wine from a good friend who knows how much I LOVE Halloween. We drank it up with our friends, and I immediately washed out the bottle and put it aside for a future project. I’d love to share how I altered it into a fun and festive decor piece for my home during the fall season.
I’ve used the small and regular poinsettia dies for this bottle, but one could easily do the job with one die.
1. Start with a clean, empty wine bottle. This bottle was purchased in my local World Market store, however one might be able to find it elsewhere.
2. Adhere a wide strip of Halloween paper to the front of the bottle below the label using plenty of Double-Sided Adhesive Tape.
3. Die cut one Grapevine Wreath from Dark Chocolate Soft Finish Cardstock. Gently sand to expose the white core.
4. Blend purple ink over the exposed white areas.
This close-up shows the interesting effect from blending a color onto the sanded area.
5. After cutting a slit across the Grapevine Wreath, adhere it around the bottle’s neck by placing small pieces of Double-Sided Adhesive onto the back and pressing firmly into place.
6. From Rich Black Soft Finish Cardstock, die cut two of each petal piece from the regular Poinsettia. Gently sand the outer edges.
7. Blend orange ink to the exposed sanded areas as shown, then blend color on the reverse side of each petal.
8. From Rich Black Soft Finish Cardstock, die cut six Woodland Leaves. Sand edges and blend several Fall colors.
9. Lay the largest Poinsettia piece face down on the Leaf Pad and score a vein line down the center of each leaf as shown using the leaf tool.
10. Flip the petal piece face up on the Leaf Pad and continue making vein lines on each leaf.
11. Grasp the leaves one at a time with the reverse tweezers and pinch each one with your fingers to shape.
12. Place the petal piece face up on the molding pad and “cup” it by pressing the medium ball stylus into the center as shown.
13. Repeat the veining and shaping steps with the remaining pieces, then begin to layer the pieces together with glue.
14. Vein and shape the Woodland Leaves in the same manner. (Here you see the fully-assembled spooky poinsettia.)
15. Create two more poinsettias using the Small Poinsettia die. Drop a dot of glue to the center of each and sprinkle Diva Silk Microfine Glitter. Set aside to dry.
16. Add black lace and a stamped label to your bottle, if desired. Adhere the leaves and flowers to the bottle with hot glue.
Here’s a close-up of the spooky poinsettia and leaves.
Adhere fun embellishments like chipboard, ribbon and a key to your bottle, then display your Elixir during the Halloween season.
