Season’s Greetings Wall Hanging

December 25, 2016

Hi there, it’s Katelyn from A Creative Journey, with my last guest post for 2016. Today I get to share with you this Season’s Greetings Wall hanging using an embroidery hoop. Before I get any further, I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas.  With it being Christmas today, I thought it would be fun to share one more Christmas project with you featuring a variety of dies from Els van de Burgt, Susan’s Garden Club, Quitfire Design, and Jose Designs, plus some Elizabeth Craft Designs products. Let me show you how you can re-create my wall hanging at home.

1. Die cut a piece of patterned paper using the 5 1/4″ Stitched Circle die.

2. Trace and cut out a circle from patterned paper that measures 9 1/4″ round.

3. Die cut three holly garlands from White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool, blend Walnut Stain and Pine Needles Distress Ink over each holly garland.

4. Die cut the garland with dot berries on it ten times out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool, blend Antique Linen Distress Ink over each garland piece.

5. Die cut the Season’s Greeting sentiment out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool, blend Antique Linen Distress Ink over the sentiment.

6. Die cut the sled and accessories from White Soft Finish Cardstock using the Sled die set. Once the sled is cut, use a blending tool and blend Walnut Stain Distress Ink over the entire surface of the sled and the accessories. Blend Fired Brick Distress Ink over both Poinsettias. Blend Pine Needles Distress Ink over each of the leaves. Blend Fossilized Amber Distress Ink over the centres of the Poinsettias.

7. Die cut seven two-leaf branches and five three-leaf branches out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool, blend Walnut Stain and Pine Needles Distress Ink over each of the leaf branches.

8. Adhere a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet to a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Use the snowflake dies from the Entwined Circles to die cut out fifteen snowflakes. Peel off the release sheet to expose the adhesive on the front of the snowflakes and sprinkle White Silk Microfine Glitter over them. Tap off excess glitter. Polish the glitter with a fingertip. Repeat for all snowflakes. (Note: White Silk Microfine Glitter is opaque. For more sparkle, substitute Warm or Cool Diamond.) Add a Transparent/Gold Glitter Dot to the centre of each snowflake.

9. Blend Fired Brick and Walnut Stain Distress Ink onto a piece of  White Soft Finish Cardstock. Die cut eight poinsettias, forty large petals, thirty-two medium petals and twenty-four small petals.

10. Blend Pine Needles and Walnut Stain Distress Ink onto a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Die cut forty leaves.

11. Blend Fossilized Amber Distress Ink onto a scrap piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Die cut the dot die seven times.

12. Shape the poinsettia pieces using a stylus. Complete the eight poinsettias.

13. Distress the edges of the two patterned paper circles, then ink the edges with a blending tool and Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

14. Adhere the large patterned paper circle to the back side of the embroidery hoop. Use foam squares to add dimension and adhere the die cut Stitched Circle to the middle of the large patterned paper circle.

15. Wrap and glue all three holly garlands around the green circle. Wrap five of the garlands with berry dots on them around the top of the embroidery hoop. Once the first five are adhered, start adhering the second five slightly offset from the first set so they fill in more of the top of the embroidery hoop.

16. Adhere the Season’s Greeting sentiment to the middle of the green circle.

17. Assemble the sled. Tie a piece of twine to the cross bar; adhere the two small poinsettias and two leaves at the top left.

18. Adhere the sled toward the bottom right of the embroidery hoop. To lift the side of the sled that is beside the sentiment, add a few foam squares behind it. Adhere three poinsettias toward the bottom right; then add two five-leaf branches, two three-leaf branches and four snowflakes, clustered as shown.

19. Adhere five snowflakes around the Season’s Greetings sentiment.

20.  Adhere three poinsettias along the top left of the hoop and two more poinsettias just below the three. Use foam squares to add dimension to the last two poinsettias. Add the rest of the leaves and snowflakes, clustered as shown.

21. Accent the holly and berry dot garlands with Red/Gold Glitter Dots peel-offs. To finish the wall hanging, add a ribbon bow at the top of the embroidery hoop.

Thanks for joining me today! I hope that I’ve inspired you to create your own Season’s Greeting Wall Hanging.
