Tulips in a Pottery Pitcher

March 22, 2017

Hello to all,

Welcome to Susan’s Garden.  This is Anita here and I am so happy to present to you a card made with some of the beautiful dies from Susan Tierney-Cockburn.

Today I have beautiful tulips in a pottery pitcher. I love the way this card turned out. I tried a new colouring technique and I think it gives a very realistic look to the flowers and leaves.

Here’s how it looks:

To make this card, follow the instructions below.

  1. Colour pieces of water colour paper with any water colour medium. I have used Gansai Tambi water colour paints. Mediums like Zig markers, re-inkers, water colour pencils also give good results. Wet paper with water and add colour on the paper and continue till you have a smooth colour effect on the paper. Dry with a heat tool. It is very important to dry thoroughly to get crisp die cuts. I have used various shades of red, orange and yellow to get my coloured paper.
  2. Similarly colour the leaves green with water colour.  Add some shading using PanPastels.
  3. Shape and mold the flowers on the molding pad using the Susan’s Garden tool kit.
  4. Die cut the pitcher from White Soft Finish Cardstock. Shade the edges with Distress Inks in  Weathered Wood and Pumice Stone.
  5. Mold the vase a little to give a curved shape.
  6. Distress a 6″ x 6″ square of White Soft Finish Cardstock with Distress Inks in Peeled Paint, Scattered Straw and Bundled Sage. Make score lines at 1/8 ” intervals to create raised ridges.
  7. Die cut a Stitched Square frame from White Soft Finish Cardstock and adhere to this panel.
  8. Add strips of other Stitched die cuts as shown.
  9. Adhere the pitcher with foam tape to add dimension.
  10. Add the tulips and leaves using Kids Choice glue. Add some Leafy Branch die cut foliage.
  11. Die cut the word Celebrate twice, once in white and once in green cardstock. Adhere the two, offset to form a shadow. Then adhere the layered word to the card front.
  12. Add this card panel to a mat layer that 1/4 inch bigger on all sides.
  13. Adhere the card panel on the 6.5″ x 6.5″ card base.

I hope you liked my pitcher filled with tulips and will want to make your own version of the card. It would look great framed as a shadow box, too, don’t you think? Do try this way of colouring and shaping flowers. Visit the ECD store for a large number of flower making dies and stamps under the Susan’s Garden section.

Do share your reviews. Thanks for being with me.
