Wishing You a Happy Happy Happy Birthday!

July 10, 2017

Hey Everyone! Katelyn here, sharing with you my Happy Happy Happy Birthday Card. The starting point for my card was the fabulous Kites die from Joset Designs. Using the kite die, and combining it with a variety of die cut images from Els van de Burgt Studio and some ModaScrap patterned paper, my Happy Happy Happy Birthday Card grew from there. Let me show you below how to make it at home.

1. Using the Stitched Rectangle die, die cut the 4 1/2″ rectangle out of a piece of allover floral pattern from the Butterfly Dream collection. Distress the edges of the paper with an edge distressor. Using a Blending Tool and Black Soot Distress Ink, ink the edges.

2. Die cut the 4″ Stitched Rectangle out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Distress the edges of the paper with an edge distressor. Distress and ink the edges as in step 1.

3. Die cut the 3 1/2″ Stitched Rectangle out of a piece of allover leaf pattern Butterfly Dream paper. Distress and ink the edges as in step 1.

4. Using the Stitched Square die, die cut the 2 3/4″ stitched square out of a piece of dot pattern Thinking about… Polinesia collection paper. Distress and ink the edges as in step 1.

5. Die cut the 2 1/4″ Stitched Square out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Distress and ink the edges as in step 1.

6. Place the 2 3/4″ Stitched Square die onto a piece of Thinking about…Polinesia patterned paper. Before die cutting the square, place the 2 1/4″ stitched square in the middle of the 2 3/4″ stitched square. Die cut both of the squares at the same time. Set the 2 1/4″ stitched square to the side. Distress and ink the edges of the 2 3/4″ stitched square (open center frame, shown above) as in step 1.

7. Place the 3″ Postage Stamp Squares die onto a piece of Thinking about…Polinesia patterned paper. Before die cutting the square, place the 2 1/2″ postage stamp square in the middle of the 3″ postage stamp square. Die cut both of the squares at the same time. Set the 2 1/2″ postage stamp square to the side. Distress and ink the edges of the 3″ piece (the open frame shown above) as in step 1.

8. Using Jet Black Archival Ink, stamp the Happy Birthday sentiment from the General Sentiments stamp set onto a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Re-ink and keep stamping until you have three Happy Birthday sentiments. Cut each of the three into two pieces, keeping three of the ‘Happy’ and one ‘Birthday’.  Distress and ink the edges as in step 1.

9. For the first kite: Using the Kites die set, cut the striped kite overlay, solid kite silhoutte, two bows and one string. Using a Blending Tool and Black Soot Distress Ink, ink the entire surface of the string. Using a Blending Tool and Picked Raspberry Distress Ink, ink the entire surface of the plain kite and one bow. Using a Blending Tool and Seedless Preserves Distress Ink, ink the entire surface of the striped kite and one bow. Using a Blending Tool and Black Soot Distress Ink, ink the edges of the striped and plain kites.

10. For the first kite: Die cut the dotted kite overlay, solid kite silhouette, two bows and one string. Using a Blending Tool and Black Soot Distress Ink, ink the entire surface of the string. Using a Blending Tool and Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink, ink the entire surface of the plain kite and one bow. Using a Blending Tool and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink, ink the entire surface of the striped kite overlay and one bow. Using a Blending Tool and Black Soot Distress Ink, ink the edges of the dotted and plain kites.

11. Adhere the 4″ stitched rectangle to the 4 1/2″ stitched rectangle. Adhere the 3 1/2″ stitched rectangle to the 4″ stitched rectangle.

12. Adhere the 2 1/4″ stitched square to the 2 3/4″ stitched square. Use foam squares to adhere the 2 3/4″ stitched square to the center of the 3 1/2″ stitched rectangle.

13. Adhere the 2 3/4″ stitched square open frame to the 3″ postage stamp square frame. Adhere at an angle on top of the stitched squares in the center of the card.

14. Complete the two kites as shown above.

15. Using foam squares, adhere the kites, overlapping as shown above. Trim the tail on the dotted kite as needed.

16. Adhere the bows to the kite strings.

17. Using foam squares for dimension, adhere the sentiment at the left side of the card, with the first ‘Happy’ just slightly overlapping the striped kite and all words at an upward angle as shown.

18. Cut a 6″ x 9 1/2″ piece of  White Soft Finish Cardstock.  Score at 4 3/4″ and fold in half to create the card base. Adhere the card front to the card base. Now your card is finished.

Thanks for joining me today! I hope that I’ve inspired you to create your own version of my Happy Happy Happy Birthday Card.

Katelyn
