ECD Designer Challenge – July

July 18, 2017

Hi everyone!

It’s challenge time again … Starting this month, July 2017, our Die Cut and Coloring Design Teams will be combining for our monthly challenges.

Some of our Coloring Design Team are also sharing a few sneak peeks of the new Krista Schneider Clear Stamp and Coordinating dies which will be available soon.

Technique Friday with Els Inspiration – Every Friday Els inspires us all with a new Technique Friday video tutorial, sharing all of the wonderful ways to use ECD products. Our challenge for this month is to take our inspiration from any one of the Technique Friday with Els videos. You can find a list of all the Technique Friday with Els videos here.

For our Challenge today we are giving away a $20 Gift Card to use on our website to 3 winners.

To enter, simply leave a comment on this blog post below and answer this question: “What your favorite technique learned from the Technique Friday With Els series“.

We will select 3 lucky winners in a random drawing.

The winners will be announced on Friday, July 21st, here on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog.

Now let’s take a look at the wonderful creations our talented Design Team have created for the Challenge this month. For more information about the cards, click on the designer’s name under each card to be taken to the designer’s blog post and will open up in a new window.

Birgit Norton was inspired by Els’ Jungle Cuties Spinner Card video to create this spinner card above. To create her card Birgit has used Joset Designs Sliders & Spinners, Dolphin and Boat die sets as well as the Ahoy Sentiments Clear Stamp set. Birgit use White Soft Finish Cardstock on her card. You will see more photos of the Dolphin jumping out of the water on Birgit’s blog.

Frances Byrne  was inspired to create the sparkly piece above by Els’ Sparkling Lovebirds Birthday Card video. To create her card Frances used the ModaScrap Dandelion Fluff and Stitched Fishtail Banners die sets. The main panel of the card were layered using the Stitched Rectangles and Dotted Scallop Rectangles die sets from Els van de Burgt Studio. Frances used papers from the ModaScrap Vintage Rose 6 x 6 Patterned Paper Pack and White and Rich Black  Soft Finish Cardstock. To finish off her card Frances added a sentiment from Joset Designs General Sentiments clear stamp set.

Karen Nofziger inspiration for her card came from Els’ Silk Microfine Glitter and Lace Technique video. Karen had so much fun with this technique that she created two cards for the challenge. I may have to change it to Silk Microfine Glitter with Texture Paste and Embossing Powder, as I just watched this video and loved this technique as well. Both are great techniques. I can hardly wait to try this technique and to do the distress oxide again.

  • Rhea July 20, 2017 at 9:36 pm

Hi there. My favourite recent technique is Lacy Poppies with the distress oxide background. I love the new distress oxides, and like all the neat backgrounds you can do with that.

  • Cheryl Robertson July 20, 2017 at 12:19 am

This is a hard question to answer because I love so many of the technics. I guess my most favorite is the glitter mixed with the embossing paste. I thythat would be so pretty with the butterfly stencil.

  • Cynthia Johnson July 19, 2017 at 10:02 pm

I really love the Sparkly Plaid Background technique. I love plaid and who wouldn’t love it with glitter? I really enjoy Els’ technique videos. I look forward to seeing them each week!

Picking a favorite is a tough one. Forced to choose, I will say the micro fine glitter & lace technique.

  • Helen July 19, 2017 at 5:12 pm

Sparkle techniques are my “go to” for videos in general but I have to admit I just discovered your video tutorials through Anita’s blog. I can’t wait to start viewing them. There’s always so much to learn. Thanks for sharing videos, these cards (they are all great) and your wonderful products.

  • Cheryl Robertson July 19, 2017 at 10:57 am

This is a hard question to answer. I love so many of the techniques. Especially the ones using the glitter. But I guess my favorite would be the technique with glitter and embossing paste. I think it would look so pretty with the butterfly stencil.

  • Vicki July 19, 2017 at 9:34 am

  • Kathy Engelbert July 19, 2017 at 9:28 am

The dandelion fluff cards with both the distress oxides and the one with the Ranger paste mixed with glitter. So many possibilities come to mind using different colors of glitter and oxides. What’s not to like about glitter. It seems like the older I get, the more I love using glitter.

  • Lynne Murphy July 19, 2017 at 9:22 am

Oh my! You are asking for a favourite which is so difficult to come up with as they all have been inspiring. I guess it would have to be Peel-Off Inlay.

  • Renee Drew July 19, 2017 at 9:14 am

I learn so much from all of Els’ videos, that it’s hard to pick just one favorite. Since I’m often creating a card at the last minute, I really like quick & easy techniques, like the Sparkly Flower Lace Cards. All that glitter is stunning!

I absolutely adore all of Els’ videos and techniques! The cards from her and the DT are all inspiring, and the use of glitter is beautiful. Since I’m often creating cards at the last minute, I especially love quick & easy techniques, like the Sparkly Flower Lace Cards. The result is stunning, and looks more complicated than it actually is.

  • Karen Kleinert July 19, 2017 at 8:14 am

It is great to see a wide range of cards. Birthdays are the norm but there are other reasons to send cards and you have hit the mark. I try to send out on most of the holidays and feel I am helping the post office stay a float. It is always great to get a card in the mail. It shows that you care for the person you are sending the card to. Keep up the inspiration I know sometimes i need it to make that special card.

  • Linda July 19, 2017 at 7:58 am

I love all your videos, but my favorites are about glitter! Polishing glitter, using glitter with sticky sheets, and mixing glitter with texture paste are wonderful techniques.

  • Lori Classon July 19, 2017 at 7:33 am

I have saved all of the emails with the links and sheets to download until I get my “new” laptop, which has a lot more space for downloading, up and running! Thanks for all of the inspirational overload! lol!

What inspired me the most was the micro fine glitter and texture paste background! Have been playing with it ever since Els showed us how and am getting the most amazing colors and effects. Gives a new dimension to my cards that I would never have tried on my own. Thanks Els for all your tutorials!

  • Denise Morgante July 18, 2017 at 5:04 pm

I like the Stamped & Colored Roses, back from April 14, 2017 Love the idea of making stamps from dies. And she makes it so easy to do.

  • Bev July 18, 2017 at 4:43 pm

I would have to say my favorite was using the peel off stickers, glitter, and alcohol markers on glass to make candle holders. The ones I gave as gifts were a hit!!

  • Camilla Narayan July 18, 2017 at 4:42 pm

My favorite technique learned from the Technique Friday With Els series has to be using the microfine glitter. In fact it inspired me to pull my glitter out and use it!

  • Lucy Schmidt July 18, 2017 at 4:33 pm

I was hooked from the moment I saw Els’ first project with the microfine glitter. My all-time favorite is the peacock feather card with one of her distress oxide inks & microfine glitter techniques. It still makes my jaw drop when I rewatch it.

  • Victoria Dent July 18, 2017 at 4:20 pm

My favorite technique Els shared was to use the release sheets for masking. Oh my, the endless opportunities are realized. I have a collection of glitters that this technique affords the use of them. A little really goes a long way and very affordable! Thanks.

  • Debi July 18, 2017 at 4:11 pm

My favorite technique with else is the way she puts the flowers together. It’s just so helpful!

  • geri S. July 18, 2017 at 3:40 pm

So hard to pick a favorite as Els dos such a fantastic job with every technique! I do love the Lacey flowers and glitter and the glitter with texture paste so I guess anything with the beautiful glitter is a favorite because the colors are gorgeous!

  • Robbin July 18, 2017 at 3:19 pm

If I have to just pick one, I guess it has to be the glitter and lace technique. The videos are great and I learn some thing every time. Thank you

  • Patty Moore July 18, 2017 at 2:51 pm

Favorite is learning how to use my dies to make stencils to use with the wonderful glitters.

  • Charity Chamberlain July 18, 2017 at 2:13 pm

All of these creations are gorgeous! So many beautiful ideas! I have learned so much from the Technique Friday With Els but there are two videos that were so helpful which were the Bon Bon Box technique and the Holiday Ornaments technique video. In fact the Holiday ornaments video I literally watch once a week because I adore how stunning the ornaments are and how she was able to get all those glitter colors into each ornament. Els sure is amazingly talented and such an inspiration!

  • Nancy Collins July 18, 2017 at 2:03 pm

I learn so much from all Els’s videos, but have to say that, basically, backing intricate dies with sticky paper is the most practical tip for me.

  • Victoria Milam July 18, 2017 at 1:48 pm

Oh, I love 3-D paper crafts! So I would have to say the three little critters, and of course filled with goodies!

  • Bonnie Ehmann July 18, 2017 at 1:43 pm

Love using the glitter and stencils!!!!

  • Crystal July 18, 2017 at 1:39 pm

I learn so much from Els that is is difficult to
Pick a favorite. My favorite though is how to use the double sided tapes to use with the micro fine glitters. The glitters are beautiful and just sparkle when burnished. I never knew about this technique. The way to use the double sided tapes to get different colors of
Glitter is so creative and Els makes it look so easy. Keep the videos coming…I always look forward to Friday!

  • ANN ROBBINS July 18, 2017 at 1:39 pm

Love all these, each a little different in style but all beautiful!

  • Sharman July 18, 2017 at 1:36 pm

My favorite technique of all times, of course, was the lace and glitter technique. I just love love love how these cards look. I have done it several times now and have given the cards away and everyone has the same response…WOW did you do that and how did you do that. My next favorite one that I am just getting into is using the Susan Garden’s dies and foamiran. Really liking the effect of these flowers.

  • Beverly Parkison July 18, 2017 at 1:32 pm

Love all the little treat boxes and the glitter is just awsome

  • Holly July 18, 2017 at 1:31 pm

My favorite technique is the one I just saw today. I loved seeing Els mix a large amount of glitter into a small blob of embossing paste and then spread it onto some paper. What a gorgeous background!! I can’t wait to try that!

  • Victoria Milam July 18, 2017 at 1:29 pm

Oh! I love 3-D paper creations! So I would have to pick the three little critters, and of course fill them with a few candies!

  • Kathleen Adams July 18, 2017 at 12:59 pm

Oh there are just so many that I love. But I would have to choose the “glittery feather” one because I was stunned learning about how Els embossed over the glitter! This technique is going to be so fun for holiday cards.

  • Joanne Hoffmann July 18, 2017 at 12:34 pm

Love all the techniques cause you can’t have too many! LOL BUT if I were to choose my favorite right now it would be the one where she shows how to use your dies as stamps! Ingenious!! So creative and such a WOW factor…thanks for all the wonderful creative inspiration!!

  • Karen July 18, 2017 at 12:24 pm

I have learned so much from the technique videos by Els. My favorite one, at the moment, is using glitter on the feather dies and then using markers to color them. That said, I also have enjoyed the lace technique using glitter. I guess I just love glitter! Thank you Els.

  • Fay Marie Gardner July 18, 2017 at 12:21 pm

Thanks for all the Awesome Techniques you show us. Thanks for the chance to win

  • Aletha J Williams July 18, 2017 at 12:03 pm

That is a very hard question! If we have to narrow it down to one technique it would be the glitter and ECD’s double sided sticky sheets. I love this technique and I also love it when the die is embedded into the background sheet. I hope that made sense. Anyway, I am one of your affiliates and I just purchased some dies and sticker sheets, etc. Oh, that’s another technique…using those thin sticker sheets, amazing idea!!!

  • Sylvie M Azores July 18, 2017 at 11:48 am

I love the use of lace with micro glitter, it looks so elegant!!

  • Madelyn July 18, 2017 at 11:48 am

Distress Oxides background. Love that look.

  • Becca Yahrling July 18, 2017 at 11:42 am

I was inspired by the Sparkling Lovebirds video. So much so that I bought
the Lovebirds die when I was at the Orlando Scrapbook Expo. I meant to
buy some of the micro glitter, too, but somehow went home without any.

  • Debra July 18, 2017 at 11:41 am

My favorite technique is the use of glitter with the dandelion fluff. I am newer to cardmaking. I find that this technique makes my cards look better than my overall skill level!

  • Donna Levine July 18, 2017 at 11:41 am

The technique I like right now is the Glitter with texture paste and embossing powder. I did not know you could heat the glitter…learn something new every Friday!! Love All the techniques!! Thank you for always creating the most beautiful cards and sharing your ideas.

  • Virginnia Herring July 18, 2017 at 11:28 am

I love the white on white Valentine’s Day card with the entwined hearts and the lace pocket dies. That was the very first card I ever tried to replicate from Friday night with ELS as I had only just discovered her and ECD. Since then I have gone back and watched and learned from most of the videos.

  • nancy dempsey July 18, 2017 at 11:26 am

I love learning how versatile glitter can be and I have to say my favorite so far is the glitter and lace technique.

  • Carol Sennott July 18, 2017 at 11:16 am

How use glitter with the polishing techniques.

  • Joan Anderson July 18, 2017 at 11:15 am

  • Janet Ingraham July 18, 2017 at 11:03 am

Have to say I love when she uses the micro fine glitter and lace technique but I like sliders too and of course learning how to use my oxides.

  • Jeanne H July 18, 2017 at 11:02 am

By far my favorite learned from technique friday with Els is the Peacock Feather Card with Distress Oxide background. I love using the Microfine Glitter and feathers and other dies. I don’t have the Oxides yet, but use regular Distress inks!

  • Barbara Rocha July 18, 2017 at 10:59 am

Just love Els videos especially the silk & fine glitter technique. Love the products wish I could have them all.

  • Janet Gundrum July 18, 2017 at 10:56 am

I like unusual techniques. A recent video used embossing powder on the edges or a feather with glitter on the middle. I like it!!!

  • Cathy July 18, 2017 at 10:54 am

I love the inspiration and techniques shown in the videos. While it was hard to pick a favorite, I will have to stick with holiday ornaments. Thank you so much for this chance to win. Good Luck everyone!

  • Chris July 18, 2017 at 10:51 am

I love most of your techniques but the one that stood out for me was the Sparkly Seahorse (61). Just so awesome that I had to get the die! 😀 I also love the Calligraphy dies as well. 🙂

  • Mitzi July 18, 2017 at 10:48 am

Beautiful cards today! I love the look of glitter, but not so much the mess of working with it. My favorite technique that has saved me lots of expense is using the transfer sheets and saving the Peel Off waste [that I used to throw away!].

  • Priscilla Thibault July 18, 2017 at 10:48 am

The texture paste with glitter video is one of my favorites because I have texture paste but didn’t really know what to do with it, and anything with glitter is great!

  • Joset July 18, 2017 at 10:48 am

Wow so many amazing project! I love them all! Joset

  • Audrey Pomerantz July 18, 2017 at 10:46 am

Just love the spinner dolphin. So creative. I also love the Christmas Love, it is simple yet beautiful

  • Ingrid B July 18, 2017 at 10:46 am

My favorite technique learned from the Technique Friday With Els series videos is her suggestions for making things from what you already have, such as using Dies to make stamps using foam, or using release sheets as masks for another project.

  • Sophia Marx July 18, 2017 at 10:45 am

I want to try them all!

  • Deb J July 18, 2017 at 10:43 am

I loved the Colourful Feathers technique and video. It made me look at combining different mediums together instead of just colouring with a single medium. Loved that the feathers were heat embossed on top of the glitter and that glitter was coloured by markers. And it was great to find out that the adhesive could take the heat…. loved it

  • Janet Gundrum July 18, 2017 at 10:42 am

I like unusual techniques and a recent video showed edging with embossing powder and finishing with glitter. I like it!!!

  • PA808 July 18, 2017 at 10:38 am

My favorite technique is when you use your double stick tape to create stencils and stickers. Your demonstrations and explanations are perfectly done.

  • Sally-Ann Huson July 18, 2017 at 10:15 am

Hi ECD, I love the sparkly plaid glitter technique using glitter and tape, this technique really appealed to me. So effective and makes a great background, tag or element for a card or scrapbook page. Love the inspiration. Also really love the Birds dies and stamps – so easy to colour and makes making a card so easy and quick!

  • Kim McField July 18, 2017 at 10:12 am

Holy cow, I love the glitter and lace technique! I’ve used lace on cards before, but always just as a lace embellishment, not to create that gorgeous, glittery pattern. Now I need to try this!!

  • Linda Vader July 18, 2017 at 10:11 am

I don’t think it was a technique, but more a tutorial. But I absolutely love the Halloween Pop Up card, even attempted to make one (not as nice as Elizabeth’s) but I was decent. Thanks for all the sharing.

  • Karen Shirey July 18, 2017 at 9:37 am

I have learned so many wonderful techniques from Els series, but if I must choose, my favorite technique from the Technique Friday With Els series would be all the ones using the Microfine glitter, creating sparkling backgrounds, dipping edges of die-cuts and die-cut ‘inset’ techniques. all help to make positively stunning professional looking cards.

I’m 83 years of age and had stopped buying craft products, but after seeing Els on Hochanda, a British TV programme I fell in love with all she does especially her Micro Silk Glitter. I actually met her at a demo she did in “Crafts U Love” craft shop in West Sussex , UK. I have since bought a few of her dies and lots of Glitter, I have more glitter on order. Thank you Els you are terrific, I look forward to your new products.

Love watching the videos and seeing all the great techniques. One of my favorites is Shimmer Sheetz Patchwork. Great card that Sanna made. Another one I really love is Coloring on Watercolor Paper. Darling owl card. Thanks for all of the fantastic ideas that you have given us.

  • Jane Luxem July 18, 2017 at 9:29 am

I recently loved the glitter backgrounds Els showed us but all of her techniques are out of the ballpark!

  • Erin McKenzie-Christensen July 18, 2017 at 9:25 am

my favorite technique is the one where you create a mask using the backing paper from cutting a die the video was using els butterfly die and the 2 overlay sets and you make a mask using the overlay and then use microfine glitter to colour it and then u mask off a second body and put glitter on that as well then there is a sticky part to stick the glittered butterfly to. I love making these butterflies!!! they are great as fridge magnets! My second favorite is making restickable stickers using the transfer sheets they look great on windows and make a great present!

  • Patricia Sakrismo July 18, 2017 at 9:23 am

Really love the glitter & lace technique! I sewed my wedding dress 47 years ago & still have lace pieces left, so I made an anniversary card for my daughter using that lace. She loved it! Thanks, Els for all the wonderful ideas. You are such an inspiration!

Wow. Choosing only one technique from Technique Friday with Els is really hard. I have learned so much from her videos, especially so many great ways to use the gorgeous colors of Microfine Glitter. However, if I can only choose one thing it would be the flower shaping when Susan was a guest on the show. Thank you so much for all the ideas and helpful hints.

  • Christina Massey July 18, 2017 at 9:09 am

I have always loved the Sparkly Flower Lace Card. It is so versatile.

  • Theresa July 18, 2017 at 8:51 am

I do love the glitter and the lace technique, but I enjoy all of them. One of my favorites was when Els made bon-bon boxes but I confess, it’s just because she’s so cute when she says “bon-bon”.

  • Theressa C. Hudspeth July 18, 2017 at 8:46 am

I love Sandys little critter boxes. I do t recall what it’s called but they sure are cute. I like all the techniques but this one just tickled me

  • Tracy Steinbach July 18, 2017 at 8:43 am

I have to say I learn something from all the video’s and to pick a favorite would be hard but using the glitter as a background was something I tried. Using the stickers with the glitter she makes that look so easy and I struggle with it. At night after everyone goes to bed I watch all kinds do card instruction videos and end up going to bed a 1am. Beautiful cards posted today!

  • Barb MacAskill July 18, 2017 at 8:21 am

I fell in love with ECD years ago and got away from it, as we all do. But these basic design methods are timeless and always give a wow factor when you send a card with micro fine glitter. My favorite technique lately is the glitter and lace. I watched Els do this last year in Orlando and she pulled me back to her products as I had bought so much sitting on my shelf. Thanks for the chance to win something new.

  • Sherry Norte July 18, 2017 at 7:39 am
