Hello, Diana here with another card sure to brighten the day for that garden-lover in your life. My mom has not only a green thumb but her whole hand is green! Seriously, she can stick a stalk in the ground and it will grow. She had many, many kinds of flowers in her garden but dahlias always bring her to mind. I’m pretty sure she would like this card even though I know she prefers live plants! Who would you send it to?
Here is a picture of a dahlia from my garden. I go for color more than size (Mom loved the dinner plate-size dahlias). Aren’t the colors fabulous? You can’t fail using the color combinations from nature!
Here is how to create the card:
- Create a white card base by scoring a sheet of white card stock sized 10″x 7″ in half on the long side.
- Mask a quarter-inch wide strip with washi or other low tack tape and use Distress Inks in Picked Raspberry and Fossilized Amber inks to color a vertical stripe as shown in picture above.
- Die Cut Sending and Smiles out of white cardstock and use same inks to sponge the words as seen on the card.
- Die cut the Dahlia out of white cardstock and sponge all petal and stamen pieces. The center of each die cut should be sponged with the Fossilized Amber ink as well as the smallest dies for the flower. Outer edges for all but the stamens are Picked Raspberry.
- Die cut leaves out of green cardstock and sponge with Mowed Lawn Distress Ink.
- Shape the petals using Susan’s Metal Tool Set.
- Assemble and adhere the flowers directly onto the card front. Review Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s Dahlia tutorial as needed.
8. Adhere words to complete the card.
Here is another look at the card! Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope you give these beautiful dies some playtime soon.

Absolutely gorgeous!!!
Beautiful flower and card! I think I’ll try to make it!
Oh my, that’s gorgeous! I love the color combination – I am going to plant Dahlia’s next year, for sure. I’ve really been enjoying my Zinnias – funny, I’ve never planted them before and they are so easy, pretty and colorful. But those Dahlias!!!
This is one of the most beautiful cards I have ever seen. I would send this card to my friend, Beth. A friend beautiful inside and out.
