Hi Crafty Friends,
It’s Frances here and it’s my turn to post a tutorial for the Coloring Design Team today. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love owls …. why else would my blog be named StampOwl’s Studio! You can never have too many owls!!! So when Els showed me this stamp set by designer Krista Schneider that is being released next week, of course I was excited and I have been so wanting to play with it.
Here is how I created my card:
Step 1 –
- Stamp and color the owls of your choice from the Give a Hoot Clear Stamp set.
- Die cut the images using coordinating dies.
Step 2 –
- Use the second largest rectangle from the Stitched Rectangles die set to die cut a piece of designer paper from the ModaScrap Polinesia Patterned Paper Pack (6″ x 6″ pack used here).
- Using the largest rectangle from the Dotted Scallop Rectangles die set, die cut a piece of black cardstock.
- Layer pieces together.
Step 3 –
- Using the fifth smallest fishtail banner from the Stitched Fishtails die set, die cut one fishtail from White Soft Finish Cardstock.
- Using the fifth smallest banner from the Fitted Fishtails die set, die cut one fishtail from black cardstock.
- Layer the two fishtail panels together and add to the top left hand side of the card (refer to photo above for placement).
Step 4 –
- Using a coordinating designer paper from the ModaScrap Polinesia Patterned Paper Pack, cut a piece of paper 3/4 inches wide. (Optional – If you wish to have stitching on the edges of this thin panel so that it matches the background layer, use the Stitched Rectangles die to cut the edges before adhering to your card. ).
- Layer the designer paper onto a piece of black cardstock that measures 7/8 inches x 4 inches.
- Attach this panel across the top of the card so it covers the top of the fishtail banner. Because this panel will be attached to an uneven surface, either back the top half of this panel with cardstock or add foam tape to this area.
- Add Black/Silver Glitter Dot Peel Off Stickers, evenly spaced across the panel.
Step 5 –
- Using the “Hope your day is a HOOT!” sentiment from the If Animals Could Talk Clear Stamp set, mask off all of the sentiment except for the “Hoot!” when inking it, remove the mask, and then stamp the word at the lower right hand corner of the card using black ink. Mask, ink, remove the mask and stamp the word a second time, lined up just above the first Hoot!
Step 6 –
- Adhere the owls and moon to the fishtail banner using foam tape for dimension.
Step 7 – Inside of Card:
- Use the second largest rectangle from the Stitched Rectangles die set to die cut a piece of designer paper from the ModaScrap Polinesia Patterned Paper Pack (6″ x 6″ pack used here).
- Using the largest rectangle from the Dotted Scallop Rectangles die set, cut a piece of black cardstock.
- Layer and adhere pieces together.
- Using the “Hope your day is a Hoot!” sentiment from the If Animals Could Talk Clear Stamp set, stamp the sentiment toward the upper part of the panel using black ink.
- Adhere another of the owls from the Give a Hoot! Clear Stamp set to the bottom right hand corner of the card.
Step 8 –
- Using the second smallest fishtail banner from the Stitched Fishtails die set, die cut two fishtail banners from the same designer paper you used for the background on the card front.
- Using the second smallest banner from the Fitted Fishtails die set, die cut two fishtail banners from black cardstock.
- Layer and adhere fishtail banners together. Trim to desired length and adhere to card using photo above as a guide.
Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.

Oh my…another super cute card idea! The only problem is that darn “coming soon” next to the stamp and die! Just like the Camping out Colorado stamp set…any idea when these will be available? Is there anyway we can be notified?
The new stamps/dies (plus more) should be released next week. Have you signed up to receive the Elizabeth Craft Designs newsletter??? That way you will never miss out on any important news 🙂
