Spooky Tree ~ Halloween Scenery

September 29, 2017

Welcome back friends.

Melanie here with you today to share a little Halloween Magic. Before receiving these Halloween dies I would have said “I don’t make Halloween cards,” but now that I have played with the dies and stamps from this collection I am hooked. They are amazing and if you like doing scenes then make sure you check out all the others from the collection, especially the Haunted House Set.

Here is how to make the card:

Step 1. Cut a piece of watercolor paper to 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″. Cut a piece of Silver Gray Soft Finish Cardstock to 4 1/4″ x 11″, score and fold in half to form a top-fold card base.

Step 2. Die cut a circle from a PostIt (sticky) note and add it where you would like the moon to be. This will act as a mask.

Step 3. Using Distress Oxides Inks in Spiced Marmalade, Black Soot, and Fossilized Amber, add ink directly from the pads onto a craft sheet.

Step 4. Then spray the craft mat with water to activate the oxidation.

Step 5: Smoosh the 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ piece of watercolor paper  directly into the ink puddles to pick up the colors and create a spooky, mottled effect. Repeat, if needed, and dry with a heat tool between applications of wet ink.

Step 6 Keep smooshing and drying until you get the desired look.

Step 7. Peel away the mask and color the white circle using a yellow marker.

To complete the card front follow the remaining steps.

Step 8. Die cut the tree from white watercolor paper and sponge with Black Soot ink, or die cut from black cardstock. Adhere to card front using foam tape for added dimension.

Step 9. Die cut the fence using Silver Gray Soft Finish Cardstock and the bat from Rich Black Soft Finish Cardstock. Adhere to the card front to complete the scene.

See the “Technique w/ Els” video below for a close-up look at the Distress Oxide background technique.

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope I have inspired you to create Halloween cards this year.
