Striped Glitter Christmas Cards

November 23, 2017

Hello everybody, Sanna here again for the Die Cut Team. A little glitter for Christmas cards is always a good idea, in my opinion. Therefore, today´s card tutorial is all about glittery stripes. I wanted to create clean and simple yet sparkly Christmas cards that would be easy to mail. These are not that bulky and have a festive feel to them. Here is how I created the two cards: 1. Take two white card bases and cut white cardstock pieces, one for each card, just slightly smaller than the front of the card. 2. Cover ONE of the smaller cardstock pieces with rows of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape. Keep the tape covered, don’t expose the adhesive yet! 3. Now place the tape-covered cardstock rectangle into your die cutting machine and die cut a tree, centered. (The tree is from the Reindeer die set.) 4. Choose several jars of Silk Microfine Glitter in a coordinating color range for a monochromatic look. (3 or more to add variety.) 5. Remove the covering from the tape strips for one color of glitter at a time. Apply the glitter, brush off excess and return it to the jar. Polish the glitter with a fingertip to bring out the maximum sparkle. 6. Repeat until all of the stripes are glittered. Repeat this process for the tree. (You may want the stripes on the tree to be glittered in a different color progression from the background as shown on the samples. The tree and background are used on two separate cards. TIP – OPTIONAL: Complete the glittering prior to die cutting the tree! This will save some time.) 7. Die cut Pure Purple and White Soft Finish Cardstock pieces with the Postage Stamp Rectangles (choose two sizes next to each other). Use the bigger die for the purple cardstock piece. 8. Adhere the purple rectangle onto a card base, then adhere the glitter tree on top of the white rectangle piece. Attach that with 3D foam on top of the purple piece. 9. Use the negative, glittered background piece on the second card. Mark the free area in the middle onto the card base with a pencil or use sticky notes to show where to stamp. Repeatedly stamp the word ‘Joy’ with Grey Distress Oxide ink. If a pencil was used, erase the marks. 10. Attach the striped, glittered background piece with 3D foam to the card base. 11. Create a white scallop frame by cutting a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock into a rectangle slightly smaller than the striped glittered background. Use one of the Postage Stamp Rectangles dies and center this in the middle of the cardstock to cut out the open area in the middle.  Adhere the frame  on top of the glittered piece as shown, using paper glue or narrow Clear Double Sided Tape to hold it in place. 12. Decorate with purple dimensional pearls for additional detail. 13. For the first card, stamp a sentiment using partial stamping technique (steps shown on the video) with black ink and decorate the tree image with Nuvo Crystal Drops. I´ve prepared a start-to-finish video tutorial for this pair of cards. I hope you enjoy watching it and get inspired to make them yourself!
