One Die – Three Ways

November 30, 2017

Hello to all! This is Anita here today.

Belated Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends at Elizabeth Craft Designs!!! I hope you had super fun shopping for your craft goodies at the ECD store on Black Friday, and maybe my project will entice you to do a bit more…

I had awesome fun creating cards with the recently release Abstract Background. There are many creative ways that you can use this die and I want to share some of the ways now. (You can use them in your own way and I would love to see what you create with them, so if you’re not already part of the Elizabeth Craft Designs Facebook Family, please join in.)

Here is my take for using one background die in three ways.

Card 1 – Adding an extra intricate layer with a partial die cut

Use Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide ink to colour the die cut. Spray water on top to get a soft look. Remove the top part by fussy cutting . The top of the card has been coloured with Wilted Violet Distress Oxide ink using Clarity Stencil brushes to give a soft hue. It is also scored at 1/8″ intervals on the score board. Adhere the die cut at the bottom. Stamp a flower image and colour with Zig markers. Adhere the flower image to the card panel . Add a sentiment that has been stamped on a strip of Distressed Violet Soft Finish Cardstock, heat-embossed with white embossing powder.

Card 2- Die cut as Stencil

I love the way this card turned out. Here I have used the background die as a stencil using two inks – Seedless Preserves and Wilted  Violet. The die cut cardstock ‘stencil’ was used to add the first layer on the card panel with one ink, then shifted to the right by an eighth of an inch and stenciled with the second colour, two shades in a similar palette for a shadow effect. Fussy cut a triangle out of a piece of white cardstock cut with the same die Add a little heart lace around the edges. Adhere some hearts, overlapping, topped with a stamped sentiment. Also add some of the small hearts.

Card 3–Die cut used as embellishment on watercolor background

Did you like this vibrant card? It is so much fun and easy to create watercolor backgrounds. The die cut from background die has been used to create two heart shaped embellishments. The heart die is used to cut out the shape and layered to create this look. The sentiment has been heat embossed with white embossing powder on black card stock.

As final accents, add sequins and water droplets (clear round embellishments).

There are many different large background dies at the Elizabeth Craft Designs store. You can substitute any of them to create your own cards using these same three methods.

Please let me know what you think of these projects!
