Country Snowman

December 28, 2017

Hi Everybody!

Angela here with today’s post. This is my last one as a member of the Susan’s Garden Design team so I’d like to take a minute to say thank you for your kind comments and “likes”. I’ve had a great time designing and sharing my cards with you!

For this post I decided to create a winter scene with Susan’s CountryScapes dies. They are so much fun to play with and the endless ways they can be combined will let your imagination come to life.

This card uses several die sets including English Cottage 2, Build a Snowman, Mountains, and Country Fence with the Snow Decor accessories. Add one of my favourite trees from The Woods set and a scene is born!

Here we go:

Step 1 – Start by creating a 5 1/2 inch square top- or side-fold card base from blue cardstock.

Step 2 – Cut two 5 1/2 inch squares from 85lb White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using the 2 longer dies from the CountryScapes – Mountains set, cut hillsides for the background. Colour the trees with Copic markers. Adhere to the card front using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

Step 3 – Cut the pieces for the English Cottage 2 from 85lb white Soft Finish Cardstock backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet prior to cutting, all except for the snowy piece for the rooftop. Cut that piece of cardstock with the adhesive on the FRONT. Remove the release sheet from the adhesive on the rooftop piece and use White Silk Microfine Glitter to cover. Pour excess back into the jar and polish the glitter with a fingertip to ensure that it stays put and to bring out the maximum sparkle. Colour the remaining pieces as desired. (I used Copic Markers.) Assemble the house and adhere to card front. See the photo for placement.

Step 4 – Die cut the Build a Snowman pieces, using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet on the front of the three “snowball” pieces of the snowman, his scarf and hat and Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet on the back of the other pieces. Use White Silk Microfine Glitter to cover the the snowman. For the scarf, use Cool Diamond Microfine Glitter and then Copic Markers to colour the glitter and give it stripes. For the hat, use Charcoal Pollen to create the texture and look of felt. Alternatively, colour with a charcoal marker.

Step 5 – Colour his buttons, nose, pipe, etc., with Copic Markers.

Step 6 – Cut The Woods 1 tree from ECD’s Through the Lens – Wood Collection 6 x 6 cardstock backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet prior to cutting. Edge with Brown Distress Ink. Adhere to card front.

Step 7 – Cut the Country Fence 1 two times, once from brown cardstock and once from Through the Lens – Wood cardstock backed with Double Sided Adhesive Sheet prior to cutting. Adhere the wood grain paper to the cardstock for dimension. (Tip: Cut a second piece from the same Wood cardstock, but with the grain going in the opposite direction. Trim the fence posts and adhere these to the previously cut fence to create a more realistic look!) In order to keep the fence from “bending” around the tree when I adhered it to the card front, I added to small piece of cardstock to the back of the posts to raise it a little.

Step 8 – Die cut the snow from the Backyard 4 – Snow Decor set from white cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the front prior to die cutting. Cover with White Silk Microfine Glitter as in previous steps for snowman and rooftop. Adhere to the fence.

Step 9 – Die cut the pine garland and mini poinsettia pieces from White Soft Finish Cardstock and colour with Copics. Optional/suggested: Shape the flowers with Susan’s tools. Adhere garland and flowers to the top of the fence as shown, using tiny dabs of Kids Choice Glue at intervals to hold the pieces in place.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Holiday Season!
