Time for Thank You Cards

January 4, 2018

Hi everyone and welcome. With the holidays behind us we can kick back a little.  It’s time sit down and write the thank you cards for all the lovely gifts we received from friends and family.  It’s Sandy Diller here and I have a lovely card to share with you that depicts the season.  It looks difficult but is surprisingly easy to put together.  Who wouldn’t love to receive this inlaid snowflake card?

These cards are 5.5″ square with a top fold.  Create the card base from a piece of white cardstock measuring 11″ X 5.5″. Score at 5.5″ and fold.

1.  Using the largest Stitched Squares die, cut a square from glittered cardstock in color of choice.

2.  Using one of the dies in the snowflakes die set, cut a snowflake from the center of the square, leaving an open space as shown above.  Save the snowflake cutout for another project.

3.  Glitter paper was used for all cards. For silver glitter paper, make your own as follows:

  • Cover front side of paper or lightweight cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive.
  • Peel off the liner to expose the adhesive, taking care not to touch the adhesive with your fingers. (Review one of Els van de Burgt’s YouTube glitter project tutorials if you are new to this technqiue.)
  • Cover with Silk Microfine Glitter.
  • Brush off the excess glitter and return it to the jar.
  • Polish the glitter into the adhesive with a fingertip to bring out the maximum sparkle.

4.  Using the next size smaller Stitched Square die – cut one panel using the newly glittered paper.

5.  Add panel under the larger panel being careful not to get glue in the opening.  This method makes two layers, if you want three layers, simply reverse the size order of the panels.

6.  Using the Snowflakes die, cut one snowflake from white cardstock or white glittered paper and remove all the small pieces. Gently fold the inner ‘arms’ of the snowflake upward if added dimension is desired.

7.  Carefully add glue to the back of snowflake (except for the areas that are bent upward, if you have decided to go that route) using a fine tip bottle or a corsage pin or toothpick to add the glue, a tiny bit at a time.

8.  Place snowflake in the opening of the large panel lining it up to fit perfectly and press in place.  TIP: Press one point of the snowflake at a time to get a perfect fit.

9.  Adhere panel to card base.  Optional: Decorate the center of the snowflakes with Transparent/Gold or Transparent/Silver Glitter Dots peel-offs and a flat-backed rhinestone as shown, or use a button or brad, or Nuvo Crystal Drops.

Well, there you have it! I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and will give inlaid snowflake cards a try.

Happy New Year,

Sandy

Very pretty! I made some Christmas cards similar to this but I used a matching foil paper under a star I cut out with glitter paper. The effect was very pretty and I added a few crystals for some additional pizzaz!
