Free as a Bird

February 1, 2018

Good Morning.  This is Selma Stevenson today with a card designed using Becky Seddon’s Free As A Bird  die set and Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s CountryScapes Garden Edges Rose Hedge die set.  This card could be used for a Valentine, a wedding, an anniversary, or whenever you want to send love to someone special.

Step 1 –  Create a 6 1/2 x 5-inch side-fold card base from red cardstock. Cut a piece of white cardstock and a slightly smaller piece of ModaScrap Christmas Holidays patterned cardstock. Adhere to the front.

Step 2 – Using the appropriately sized die from the Dotted Scallop Rectangles die set,  cut a vanilla cardstock rectangle. (Match the background in the ModaScrap cardstock as closely as possible.) Adhere, centered, on the card front.

Step 3 – Die cut a bird cage and pair of birds from White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step 4 – Sponge Aqua ink onto bird cage, then use a fingertip to rub Silver metallic paste over the top to create the look of patina. Sponge Light Green ink on the flourishes at the sides of the birdcage.  Add Silver metallic paste over the chain.  Attach to the center of the die cut rectangle.

Step 5 – Sponge the die cut birds with Aqua ink and add a little light tan on their chests and over the blue ink.  Add an eye using a fine tip black marker.

Step 6 –  Use Susan’s CountryScape Garden Edges Rose Hedge die set to cut pieces for 14 or 15 roses.  Shape each petal with small stylus in Susan’s Flower Tool Kit, use tweezers to roll the roses, and Kids Choice Glue to hold them in the finished shape.

Step 7 – Use the CountryScapes Garden Edges Rose Hedge die set to cut light green leaves.  Use the leaf tool to draw a small line in center of each leaf.

Step 8 –  Use the CountryScapes Flora 5 die set to cut several pieces. Cut apart, using only the smaller leaves for this card. (Set aside the larger leaves for other projects.)

Step 9 – Arrange the roses and leaves around the bird cage as shown.

Step 10 – Use black VersaFine ink to stamp the ‘love you’ sentiment onto vanilla cardstock. Optional: Clear emboss.

Step 11 – Use The Dotted Scallop Circle die set to cut around the stamped sentiment.

Step 12 – Use the Hearts Cut Outs die set to cut three hearts.  Glue the hearts around the sentiment.  Use a marker to add the stitch marks around the edge of the scallops and inside each of the dots in the scallops.  Attach to the upper left corner of the card.

Step 13 – Attach the birds with dimensional tape as shown.
