Grow Happiness, Plant Dreams

Hey Everyone!!!  EK here today sharing a card I created to help beat those winter blues.  I am so over grey skies and winter sludge, that I find myself creating projects these days infused with some much needed color.  Today’s card might be overly bright, but it is also an excellent way to beat the mid-winter slump.

Step 1 – To create this card, cut watercolor paper into a 6″x6″ square.  Stamp the new Krista Schneider Stripes Background Stamp in Archival Black Ink, using a stamping platform.

Step 2 – Using watercolors  (Kuretake Gansi Tambi watercolors used here), boldly watercolor between the lines, moving in a rainbow color pattern.  Coloring from the bottom, start  with blue and move into purple, red violet, red, orange, yellow, green and returned to blue.

Step 3 – Spray the whole project with water, saturating it.  Move the paper in different directions so that the watercolors can blend into each other.  Dab off extra water with a paper towel, leaving the blotting texture behind.

Step 4 – Adhere the watercolor paper to a 6″x6″ card base using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.  Add a black frame onto the watercolor paper made from Black Soft Finish Cardstock and die cut using a large square die such as the Dashing Squares die set.

Step 5 – To create the flowers, stamp Krista Schneider’s new Garden Party stamp onto White Soft Finish Cardstock using alcohol marker-friendly ink such as Memento in Tuxedo Black.  Color the images in bold, bright colors. (Copics used here.)

Color combinations used:
Orange- YR16, YR07, R05
Red- R14, R29, R89
Pink- RV23, RV25, RV29
Purple- V01, V04, V06
Blue- B12, B18
Green- YG11, YG06, G05
Yellow- Y13, Y35, Y38

Step 6 – Die cut the images using the coordinating Garden Party die set.

Step 7 – Add the bushel of flowers to the watercolor background using  Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.  Add the individual images to the corners of the card using 3D tape.

Step 8 – Stamp the sentiments and butterfly from Krista Schneider Plant, Grow & Bloom clear stamp set using black ink.

Step 9 – To finish the card, add some white hand-drawn dots around the black frame using a white gel pen.

Hope this card brightens you day!  If you make your own version of a bright bold card, make sure you share it on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Family Facebook page!
