Happy Birthday in Pinks and Grays

February 24, 2018

Hi Artlings!  It’s Suzanne here today with a delicate birthday card.  We always need birthday cards!  Here’s one that’s a little different.  By die cutting the Flourished Frame and inlaying all the pieces back in, we can create a more subtle frame that doesn’t overpower the pink and gray.  Layer the elements to create more interest and you’ll be creating something really special for someone special!

Here is how you can make it –

Instructions:

  1. Form a 7 x 5” tent-fold card base in dark gray.
  2. Die cut the Flourished Frame from white cardstock. IMPORTANT:  Keep all the pieces! Trim the cardstock piece down to 6 x 4.5”.  Adhere to card base.
  3. Die cut Happy Birthday three times, once from light pink, once from dark pink and once from light gray.  Adhere all three with the gray in the middle and the light pink on top. Offset them just slightly as shown. Tip: Test for the look you want before you glue the layers.
  4. Die cut the smallest Fitted Rectangle from light gray cardstock and the second smallest Dotted Scalloped Rectangle from pink. Adhere together.
  5. Die cut the flourish in Calligraphic Elements 3 from white cardstock. The leaves in that set look a lot like hearts, so you can cut them in greens, but I chose two shades of pink!  Adhere those to the layered rectangle panel as shown.
  6. Working piece by piece, adhere the negative shapes from the Flourished Frame back in place. Designer Tip: By doing this piece by piece, you can decide if you want to replace them all or not.  I decided to replace them all to leave a subtle outline of the frame.
  7. Adhere the layered rectangle panel to the card front with foam adhesive. Adhere Happy Birthday beside it.
  8. Give the finished card to a friend!

Thanks for visiting.  Have a wonderful and creative day!
Suzanne
