Peonies

April 3, 2018

Good Morning.  This is Selma Stevenson today.  One of my favorite flowers is the Peony.  Using Susan’s Peony 2 die set you can create beautiful, realistic flowers for cards that will be enjoyed by everyone.

Step 1.  Make a 6-inch top-fold card base from solid color cardstock.

Step 2.  Leaving a narrow border, cover the card front with floral paper from the ModaScrap Fly & Scrap pack.

Step 3  Use the Dotted Scallop Rectangles to die cut two white rectangles and one pink rectangle, alternating colors so the pink rectangle will fit between the two white ones.

Step 4.  Use a die from the Fitted Rectangles die set to cut an opening in the smallest white rectangle from Step 3.

Step 5.  Use Squeezed Lemonade and Fired Brick Distress Inks to create a marbled background that will fit behind the opening in the white rectangle. Adhere in place.

Step 6.  Adhere the larger white rectangle to the card front using 6mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

Step 7.  Adhere the pink rectangle using white craft foam or foam squares to add dimension.

Step 8.  Adhere the white frame with the marbled background on top of the pink rectangle, using 6mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

Step 9.  Use Susan’s Garden Notes Peony 2 die set to create one large peony, one small peony, and one peony bud as follows: Die cut the pieces from White Soft Finish Cardstock. Color the petals using the light and bright pink PanPastels.  To create the small peony, use four of the second largest petal pieces and shape so the flower is not all the way open.  Create a bud by cupping 2 of the second largest petal pieces so the flower is mostly closed.  Use the two-petal leaf die cut to shape around the small flower and the bud (green).  Shape the petals and leaves using Susan’s Flower Tool Kit.

Step 10.  Use the Garden Notes Berry Branch die to cut one branch.  Color the branch brown using markers.  Use Nuvo Crystal Dots to create purple berries.

Step 11.  Use the Garden Notes Maidenhair Fern die set to cut one fern.

Step 12.  Use the Leafy Branch die set to cut one branch.

Step 13.  Arrange the Leafy Branch, the Berry Branch, and Maidenhair Fern on the lower left corner of the card.  Attach the Peonies, as shown.

When you create this flower, you can use as many petals as you want to make it as full as you like.  They are so easy to create.  If you need help in learning how to assemble the peony, you can watch Susan’s YouTube Garden Notes Peony Video at this LINK.

Because of the dimension of this card, please mail it in a shallow box to avoid damage or deliver it in person! Or frame it in a shadow box and present it as a gift that can hang on the wall or sit on the mantel instead of thinking of it as a card.
