Masking and Mixing

May 11, 2018

Hi Everyone!  It’s Karen here.  My cards today include a few of my favorite things.  They have flowers, they have a combo of Kraft and white papers, and they have adorable Elizabeth Craft Design images!  Perfect!  My post shows how I do masking using sticky notes.  I am also mixing it up using two stamp sets on each of the two cards.

Here are the steps I used to make the cards:

Step 1. From 100lb White Soft-Finish Cardstock, cut a rectangle measuring 4-1/4″ x 11″; score at 5.5″ and fold in half to create a top-fold card base.

Step 2.  Cut two pieces of Kraft card stock at 4-1/2″ x 5-1/2″.  Die cut a piece of the Wood Effects 12×12 paper using the Dotted Scallop die.  Cut the die cut in half and adhere each half to a piece of the Kraft card stock.

Step 3.  Die cut each Kraft/wood piece using the Dashing Rectangle die that is 4″ x 5-1/4″.

Step 4.  Using permanent black ink, stamp the image that is in FRONT first.  (For this first card it is the kitty from the Garden Party Clear Stamps, and for the second card it is the butterfly from the Bugs & Butterflies clear stamps.)  Then stamp that image again onto a sticky note.  Cut the sticky note image out to create the mask, and cover the image already stamped on the white card stock.  Stamp the second image. With the mask in place this allows the second element to appear behind the first.  For the kitty card, it’s a Flower Power Clear Stamp.  For the butterfly card, the flowers are part of the Blossom Time Clear Stamps.  To create the third layer (the second flower behind the butterfly), stamp the second layer onto a sticky note, cut it out and mask (cover) the second image.  When done, peel off the sticky notes notes.

Step 5.  Color the image with Copic markers listed below.

Kitty:  E41, E42, E31, E33, E35, B12, B14, B16, R81, R83, R85, Y23

Butterfly:  E93, E95, E97, V20, V22, B12, B14, R81, R83, Y23, Y26

Step 6.  Die cut the colored image with the Dashing Circles Dies, and adhere to the card from with foam tape.

Step 7.  Die cut the “hello” from the Words 2 – Thinking of You.  (For this card the sentiment is double-layer to add a little dimension; made easy by die cutting with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back prior to cutting.)

Step 8.  Add Nuvo drops around the sentiment.

Thank you for stopping by!

Craftily yours,

Karen
