Spring is Here!!

May 14, 2018

Hello everyone!

It’s Sara here and I have a new project for you! I decided to use this wonderful background stamp by Krista Schneider that I hadn’t used yet.

This is a 3D card which took a lot of time but is totally worth it! It was a relaxing and colorful project that kept me peaceful for several evenings.

Here are the steps for making this card (I can assure that it will be really simple to reproduce):

Step 1 – Stamp on to a square piece of kraft brown paper to create the background, and then stamp the same images again two more times onto watercolor paper. Optional: Use a stamping platform for precise impressions, it is optional but makes everything easier!

Step 2 – Color ONE of each of the two stamped images on the watercolor with medium of choice. Fussy cut BOTH sets of stamped images and keep them together as pairs as you work.

Step 3 – Using a stylus tool and mat, shape all of the flowers, birds and leaves from the back so images are rounded and curved with a dome-like effect. (Hold onto butterflies till step 4.) Color the sides with a dark brown marker to hide any imperfections in the fussy cutting!

Step 4 – For butterflies only: pinch the wings as shown in the photo below so that the wings will be raised from the surface and only the body will be glued down when adhered later. Color the sides with dark brown marker as for the other elements.

Step 5 – Adhere smaller elements (like the tiny leaves) using only the colored and shaped pieces. Adhere the larger elements with BOTH layers (the white one glued directly underneath the colored one. Use foam tape only in the center of the ‘domed’ area to give dimension and keep the shapes rounded.

Step 6 – Cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock 1/8″ larger than the kraft piece. Add the kraft square to the white one with ECD Double Sided Adhesive Tape for a flat card. Cut a piece twice that size and fold in half for a top- or side-fold card.

You can see all the dimension here:

I hope you like it!

I don’t quite understand about the stamping and colouring. You said stamp on white card stock once and then on watercolour paper twice. So that means I have 3 images of everything. Do you want me to watercolour the white cardstock? Am I layering them on top of each other? Which one is on the top? Why not all watercolour paper. Maybe I miss read something, sorry I’m just not getting your explanation.

Hi Linda! Thanks for the comment..
You have to stamp once on KRAFT cardstock to have a guide to place every piece, and twice on watercolor paper, where you should color, that will be fussy cut for the 3D effect!
The images stamped on to the kraft are your base. You have to layer the ones on your watercolor paper (you can see in the flowers with the leaves that there is a first layer with both and a second layer only with the flower).

Please write to me if you have some other questions!

Thanks Sara! I think I have it now I misunderstood the Kraft paper for just white card paper and wasn’t sure what to do with those items I was cutting out but I now get it. You stamp on the craft paper the way you want it placed and everything else goes on top.

Now you said stamp twice on watercolour paper, am putting two layers on everything else and am I gluing them. Sorry to be a pain, I am more a visual person and need to see it done.

        It is very pretty!

Yes!! This is correct! You have to put two layers on everything except the butteflies that have only one layer.
