A Way With Words

Welcome Board

If you’re a fan of chalkboards, this project is for you! Choose a board that hangs on the wall or go for one that’s easel-backed and can stand on its own. Decorate a rectangle with a sentiment and some embellishments to put at an angle at the upper left corner and you’re done…

I chose to make a chalkboard that welcomes guests and reminds them of the day’s activities, as well as answering the most-asked question (“What’s your wifi password?”), but there are many ways to change and customize the project: Instead of hearts, add stars or butterflies or flowers.

More options:

Make a bunch of rectangles so you can switch things around. Simply use low-tack tape for a temporary hold. That way, it can go from Welcome to Happy Birthday to Congratulations to Get Well Soon! Suzanne Cannon’s A Way With Words collection has many options that are just perfect. All you need to do is change the size of the rectangle to fit the sentiment.

Instead of a chalkboard, layer the rectangle onto one that’s a size or two larger and make a hanging signfor the door OR add it to the front of a guest book to put on the coffee table with colorful markers so friends can doodle and draw when they write their messages.

Instructions:

Step 1 – Die cut a piece of Shimmer Sheetz in color of choice using the 4.25” x 3” die from the Dashing Rectangles set. (Shown: Pink Iridescent)

Step 2 – Die cut the word Welcome and 10 or more hearts from Velvet Adhesive Sheet in coordinating color of choice. (Shown: Red) Arrange the word and hearts on the rectangle as shown or as you prefer.

Step 3 – Attach the decorated rectangle to the chalkboard.
