Soft Finish Cardstock

Circles Background – Best Wishes

June 27, 2018

Welcome – it’s Samantha, back again sharing one of my favourite ways to create with background stamps. I think background stamps are undervalued in my craft room. I have a rather large collection but hardly use them outside their main intended purpose as a background stamp. For today’s card I want to share a simple and effective way to create a focal point using a background stamp.

Instructions:

Step 1: Stamp the Circles Background on white cardstock (Measurements: 5 inches x 7 inches).

Step 2: Re-position the stamp and repeat the stamping process.

Step 3: Stamp the background again, this time on different sheets of coloured cardstock.

TIP: Only stamp the section you wish to use as your focal point – this will avoid wasting paper and ink.

Step 4: Fussy cut the colored cardstock circles.

Step 5: Adhere the fussy cut circles to card front.

Step 6:  Add machine stitched line and border as shown. Option: Hand-draw the stitching instead of using a machine. (Note: Use a machine needle set aside especially for sewing on paper and cardstock and don’t use it on fabric – paper dulls the needle and glue or adhesive can sometimes make the needle sticky.) Mat stamped and embellished panel to a card base.

Step 7:  Stamp the sentiment “Best Wishes” from the Banner Sentiments Clear Stamp set onto black cardstock using VersaMark ink and emboss using white embossing powder. Die cut sentiment using coordinating die. Adhere sentiment to card front.

Step 8: Embellish card with sequins and twine.

This is one of my favourite Elizabeth Craft Designs background stamps – the design allows you to realign the stamp to create larger card sizes. For this card I chose a small area to use as a focal point but if you were patient enough with your fussy cutting skills you could paper-piece the whole background to create a fun, bright background instead. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Get out your Elizabeth Craft Designs background stamps and give this technique a go!

Happy Crafting!
