Happy Summer!

Hey Friends!  It’s EK here today sharing a little bit of paradise with you.  As my weather outside heats up to uncomfortable levels, I just keep imaging myself somewhere tropical.  To help push the fantasy a little further, I thought I would whip up a little card from paradise using the new Tropical Florals die set.

Step 1:  Gather papers to die cut: Dove Gray Soft Finish Cardstock cut to 12″x6″ and folded for the card base, along with 85lb White Soft Finish Cardstock, Spring Green Soft Finish Cardstock, and Olive Twist Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step 2:  Using the Tropical Floral die set, cut Spring Green Soft for the fern, Olive Twist Soft for the palm leaf, and the center of the flowers from the White Soft Finish Cardstock for the flower centers.  Cover the front of White SFC with Clear Double Sided Adhesive before die cutting the large flowers.

Step 3:  Using alcohol markers, add depth and dimension to the palm leaves.  Shown: Copic G24, G94, and G99.

Step 4:  Add depth and dimension to the fern leaves using alcohol markers.  Shown: Copic YG03, YG06 and YG09.

Step 5:  Remove the protective sheet from the Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the large floral die cuts. Cover each flower with Bright Cranberry Silk Microfine Glitter and Copper Rose Silk Microfine Glitter so that the Copper Rose is on the centre part of the petals and the Bright Cranberry on the outer parts of the petals. Polish the glitter into the adhesive using your finger to bring out maximum sparkle.(If excess glitters get mixed together, put into a jar or small baggie and save for another project.)

Step 6:  Using alcohol markers add color to the center petals of the flower.  Shown: Copic R20, R22, R56 and R59.

Step 7:  Shape the petals using Susan’s Garden metal tool set and molding pad.

Step 8:  Shape the larger petals using the stylus tools.

Step 9:  Using Kids Choice Glue, adhere the small petals into the center of the large petals.

Step 10:  Using alcohol markers color the filament of the flower.  Shown: Copic R20, R22 and YR23.  Add dots of Kids Choice Glue and Yellow Pollen to the tips of the filament.

Step 11:  Adhere the filament to the center of the flowers.

Step 12:  Trim a piece of Wood Effects Pattern Paper to 5″x5″ and adhere it with 6mm Double Sided Adhesive to the Dove Gray card base making sure that the lines between the strips of wood in the pattern will be horizontal on the finished card as shown in the photos below.  Die cut a piece of Cafe Au Lait Soft Finish Cardstock using the Dashing Circles die set.  Adhere the circle to the center of the card.

Step 13:  Using a stamping platform (MISTI used here) stamp the sentiment from the Beach Sentiments stamp set in brown ink in the lower right corner of the printed paper.

Step 14:  Adhere the leaves to top of the circle die cut using 3mm Double Sided Adhesive.  Then adhere the flowers using Kids Choice Glue.

Thanks for popping in to see how I die cut, colored and assembled this card!

I hope your weather is more of a tropical paradise instead of a simmering heat wave. And if not, maybe this project will bring YOU a bit of paradise, too.
