Memories

August 2, 2018

Hi Friends, it’s Sandy Diller here to share a project that would be good as a keepsake or a gift.  I was in my local craft store a few weeks ago where I saw the cutest little box that contained a photo album.  I thought I would give it a try using my own measurements and decorations.  We recently took a trip to the beach so I thought this would be a good way to save some fun photos.

There are 5 pockets, each decorated with a different scene.  Each pocket holds a tag that can be decorated with one or two photos or perhaps a ticket or other souvenir from a trip or event.

There are lots of details to share so let’s get started –

Step 1.  For the box portion, begin with a piece of double sided cardstock cut to 8.5″ X 5.75″.

Step 2.  With the 5.75″ side at the top of a score board, score at 1″ and again at 4.75″.  Shown with dotted lines in Figure 1.

Step 3.  With the 8.5″ side at the top of a score board, score at 3.75″ and again at 4.75″. Shown with dotted lines in Figure 1.

Step 4.  Cut where shown in blue lines in Figure 2, creating two tabs.

Step 5.  Fold on all score lines. The cardstock should look like the photo above.

Step 6.  For the box lid – begin with same cardstock as above measuring 5 1/16″ X  (5.75 + 1/16″).

Step 7.  With the ( 5.75 + 1/16″) side at the top of score board, score at 1″ and then to avoid any crazy measurements (and/or fractions), turn 180 degrees and score again at 1″.

Step 8.  With the 5 1/16″ side at top of score board, score at 1″ and 2″.  Turn 180 degrees and score again at 1″ and 2″.  Shown with dotted lines in Figure 3. There will be 1/16″ more on the lid than on the box so the lid easily slides on and off.

Step 9.  Cut where shown in blue, creating 2 tabs and four side panels.

Step 10.  Fold on all score lines. The lid piece will look like the photo above.

Step 11.  Fold and glue sides creating a box and a lid that look like the photo above.

Step 12.  To make the pockets: Using coordinating double sided cardstock cut 5 pieces that measure 7″ X 4.5″.

Step 13.  With the 7″ side at the top of the score board, score at 3.5″.   Shown with dotted lines in Figure 5.

Step 14.  With the 4.5″ side at the top of the score board, score at .5″ and then at 4″.

Step 15.  Cut where shown in blue shown in Figure 6.

Step 16.  Fold on all score lines, creating tabs.  Add Clear Double Sided Adhesive to tabs.

Step 17.  Each pocket will like the photo above.  Remove adhesive liner, fold tabs inward and then bottom flap up, creating a pocket.

Step 18.  Using a small Fitted Circles die, cut notch in each pocket. (Cut through both layers. Refer to photos above.)

Step 19.  Cut coordinating cardstock 10″X 3.5″.

Step 20.  With 10″ side at top of score board, score all the way down 1″ apart.

Step 21.  Add Clear Double Sided Adhesive to every other panel as shown above.

Step 22.  The pockets can be added now or after they have been decorated.

Step 23.  Cut all  decorations. For this project everything was cut from 100# White Soft Finish Cardstock and then colored with Distress Oxide Inks with the exception of the polka dot paper Rainbow which I already had in my stash.  They can, of course, be cut from any paper and colored with any medium.  Assemble as desired.  A complete list of dies is below the photos.

For these panels the Dotted Scalloped Squares, Rainbow Sky, Adventure Edges, Shells-Small & Palm Tree were used.

For these panels the Dotted Scalloped Squares, Adventure Edges, Seahorse, Seaweed, the crab from Shells-Large & the clouds from Rainbow Sky were used.

For this panel Dotted Scalloped Squares, Flamingo, Tropical Flowers and Adventure Edges were used.

For the front of the box:  The Pinwheel, Dotted Scalloped Squares and the Words 4 were used.

Using the Tags & More – Deco die – cut 5 tags to fit in pockets. Add twine to each tag.

Finally, add photos to the tags. I had fun putting this together and hope you will give it a try.

Until next time,

S@ndy
