A Colorful Balloon Card

August 8, 2018

Hi, it’s Kelly Booth here today with a Colorful Balloon Card using A Way With Words dies. I love color and there is something so magical about watercolor to me. I thought the new Big Balloon die would be a perfect canvas for some fun color blending.

Step 1 – Back a 4″.25″ x 5″.5″ piece of watercolor paper with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet or Tape. Die cut one Big Balloon from this piece.  Cover the smooth side of a 4.25″ x 5.5″ piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet or Tape and die cut a second Big Balloon from it. Cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock  to 4″.75″ x 11″; score and fold in half to create a top-fold card base. (Set card base aside.)

Step 2 – Gather some bright fun watercolors and blend colors onto the die cut Big Balloon, making sure that adjacent colors don’t get muddy. Keep adding color as desired.   See photo below.

Step 3 –  After the watercolors on the balloon are dry, add gold and/or white splatters using Distress Stains or thinned down paint. (Flick the color from a paintbrush or toothbrush.) Die cut the Butterfly Flourish from the center of the balloon. Make sure to keep all of the little negative pieces! Set aside the bright colored butterfly piece for another project.

Step 4 –  Remove the backing from the watercolored balloon and from the front of the white balloon. Adhere the watercolored balloon and the small negative pieces that were cut with the Butterfly Flourish die on top. Sprinkle all exposed adhesive with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, brush off excess and polish with a fingertip to bring out the maximum sparkle.

Step 5 – Back a piece of Gold Metallic Shimmer Sheetz with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape. Die cut a bow for the balloon and the body for the large butterfly. Adhere to the balloon and butterfly as shown. REMINDER: A metal adaptor plate or Big Shot machine with Precision Base Plate is REQUIRED for die cutting Shimmer Sheetz. Review Els van de Burgt’s YouTube tutorial if you are new to this technique.

Step 6-  Using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape, adhere the balloon onto the card base, aligning it at the top left corner. Accent the balloon with a narrow ribbon streamer, curled as shown and secured with small dabs of Beacon Kids Choice Glue.

Your card is now finished!

Below is a BIONUS card made using the Butterfly Flourish die cut left from the first project. I love how different they are – one is really bright, the other is more muted.  The new Rainbow Bark Patterned paper was a perfect match for the bonus card!   Thank you for stopping by the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog today and have a wonderful creative day…..
