Fall Flower Lace Frame Card

Fall Flower Lace Frame Card

Hi everyone! It’s Elena today. Fall is almost upon us so I wanted to try creating a brightly-colored fall card using the very intricate Flower Lace Frame from ModaScrap. I have added colored paper behind these kinds of dies before but never with hand shading coloring and I wanted to see what would happen. The result reminds me of Talavera or Majolica pottery with the bright colors, spacing between motifs and the overall pattern. What do you think? Here’s how I made the card:

Fall Flower Lace Frame Card

Step 1 – Die cut the Flower Lace Frame from a piece of Kraft brown cardstock cut to 5 ½” x 5 ½”. Then adjust the plates for your die cutter, changing the plate ‘sandwich’ as needed to emboss the same frame die onto a piece of watercolor marker-friendly white cardstock also cut to 5 ½” x 5 ½”. Using the embossing on the white cardstock and the die cut Kraft frame as guides, color the embossed flowers and leaves in the fall color palette of your choice using watercolor markers. (I used Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and bright yellows, oranges, reds, purple and greens.) Make sure to cover every bit of every flower and leaf to avoid having white patches when layering the Kraft-colored die cut square over the marker-colored piece. The end product will be a bit messy looking but that is to be expected – it will look neat as soon as the layering is complete.

Step 2 – Trim a piece of 100 lb. White Soft Finish Cardstock to 5 ½” x 11” and fold in half to create a 5 ½” x 5 ½” top-folding card base. Die cut the words ‘just’, ‘for’ and ‘you’ from the Words 2 Thinking of You die set from 85 lb. White Soft Finish Cardstock. Die cut the solid decorative oval panel from the Flower Lace Frame die set out of orange cardstock that coordinates with your coloring. Die cut the small flower die out of 85 lb. White Soft Finish Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet added to its back to make it a sticker (photo A). Fussy cut around the large flower and two leaves in the white die cut piece to create a separate flower and 2 separate leaves. Color them with the markers you used to color the embossed panel for a color-coordinated accent; I used purple and greens. Use a marker to add red faux stitch lines around the edge of the orange oval panel piece. Remove the adhesive backing from the fussy cut flower and adhere to the center top of the orange panel, just below the stitching. Adhere the leaves on either side of the flower, leaving some space between them and the flower to mimic the designs in the intricate frame die cut. Adhere the “just for you” greeting words below the flower to complete the center panel for the card (photo B).

Step 3 – Assemble the card by adding glue pen to the back of the die cut kraft flower lace frame and adhering it carefully over the colored and embossed flower panel, lining up the coloring on the embossed piece with the openings in the die cut frame. Add 10 mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the back of this piece and adhere it to the front of the card base. Add 6 mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the back of the orange center panel and adhere into the center of the flower frame. Enjoy!
