A Cute Penguin Card With A Surprise Inside!

September 30, 2018

Hi, It’s Kelly Booth here today with a simple and fun pop-up card using stamps by Krista Schneider and some fun ECD dies!

Step 1 – Cut one 4.25″ x 11″ piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock, score in the middle and fold with the textured side out to make a 4.25″ x 5.5″ top-fold card base. From the ModaScrap Fly and Scrap 12″ x 12″ paper pack, cut a scant 4.25″ by 11″ patterned paper piece. Score and fold in half; adhere to the inside of the white card base using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

Step 2 – Cut another piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock 4.25″ x 11″and score midway with the textured side up.  Place on the cutting pad with the 2-step pop-up die from the General Pop Up die set centered on the fold line.  Place the wavy hills from the Adventure Edges set about  4 inches from the fold (as shown below). With two dies in place, run through die cutting machine.

Move the wavy hills die to the other end of the card about the same distance from the fold and run through the die cutting machine.

Step 3 – With fingers underneath the cardstock, gently fold the creases in the pop-up to ‘train’ them upward like steps. Use Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back of the white hillsides and adhere inside the card, making sure not to get any adhesive on the back of the pop-up. Large platform should be at the top. Refer to photo.

Step 4 – Stamp, color and die cut the penguins using the Krista Schneider Penguins Clear Stamp set and coordinating die, and set aside.

Step 5 – From a half sheet of bright red cardstock, die cut one Merry Christmas and one each of the 2.5″ and 3.5″ Dotted Scalloped Circles.

Step 6 – Using the 3″ Fitted Circle die, cut one from White Soft Finish Cardstock texture up and one from  blue ModaScrap Fly and Scrap Patterned Paper. Place the 3″ fitted circle to the center of the 3.50″ red scalloped circle,  centering and securing with a piece of washi tape, and run through the die cutting machine to create a red frame. Take the Wavy Hill Adventure Edge and die cut white piece so for snow to add to the bottom of the blue circle. (refer to photo below)

Step 7 – Place some foam adhesive or pop dots on the back of the red ring and place on the front of the card,  centering it.  Place the white snow at the bottom of the blue circle using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape, then place that circle in the center of the red frame with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.  Place foam tape or pop dots on the back of the penguin and place onto the snow to create a little scene.

Step 8 – Adhere the word Merry onto the top of the left side of the snow bank on the inside of card using small dabs of Beacon Kids Choice Glue or liquid adhesive. Adhere the word Christmas onto the small pop-up platform. Adhere the row of silly penguins at the top of the pop-up platform. Make sure no glue extends past the steps in the pop-up platform.

Step 9 – adhere the small Dotted Scalloped Circle at the bottom of the card using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape. Die cut a 2″ Fitted Circle from the smooth side of the White Soft Finish White Cardstock and adhere to the center of the red Dotted Scalloped Circle. Write your personal greeting, name and date on the white circle.

Your card is now finished!  I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions leave them here and I will answer.

Have a Great Day!

I love the combination of dies showing you don’t have to stick with squared off edges. The background is really beautiful too on the inside of the card. Very NEAT surprise too.
