It’s A Boy!

July 9, 2019

Hi! Diane here with a new card for you! We have been blessed with our 8th grandchild on his way! How happy we are to get ready to celebrate his birth in October. This card could have easily been an “It’s a girl” card too!

Here are the steps to create this card.

STEP 1: The card base

  • Cut a White Soft Finish Cardstock to 12″ x 6″, score in the middle and fold in half for a square 6″ X 6″ card.
  • Cut a 5 1/2″ square out of yellow cardstock.
  • Cut a 5″ square out of a purple cardstock.
  • Die cut the larger size of circles in the Dotted Scallop Circles (#1172) die set, using a pattern paper of your choice, in yellow and purple tones.
  • Using the Dotted Scallop Circles die set again, die cut the third smaller size of circle in White Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Adhere the yellow cardstock on the white card base, than the purple cardstock on top of the yellow one, than the scallop circles (patterned and white) using some Clear Double Sided Tape.

STEP 2: The Elephant

  • Using the Elephant (#1663) die set , die cut all the part of the elephant into some White Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Using some sponge applicator and some Distress Oxide, color the different parts of the elephant (for the inside of the ears, I used the color “Wilted Violet”, for the rest I used “Shaded Lilac”.
  • To give dimension to the elephant, with the Large Ball Stylus tool from the Susan’s Garden 4 Pcs. All Metal Tool Set on the Molding Pad, rub the back of all the parts of the elephant.
  • With some foam adhesive and some Kids Choice Glue, adhere the elephant on the white Dotted Scallop Circles.

STEP 3: The Pansies

  • To make this flower, you can watch Susan Tierney Cockburn in this video.
  • Using some White Soft Finish Cardstock, die cut all the petals 5 times from the die set Garden Notes – Pansy 2 (#1488)
  • Using some ink markers, color the back and the front of all petals.
  • On the Molding Pad, with the Loop Tool and the Reverse Tweezers (from the Susan’s Garden 4 Pcs. All Metal Tool Set), shape each one of the petals.
  • From the Pansies die set, cut 4 times each leaf out of green cardstock.
  • Color the stem with Yellow Pan Pastel, shade the edges with some Forest moos Distress Ink.
  • Draw veins and shape the leaves using the Leaf Pad, the Molding Pad and the tools from Susan’s Garden 4 Pcs. All Metal Tool Set.

Step 4: The Myosotis

  • For this flower, you can watch how Susan Tierney Cockburn makes it in this video.
  • Using the Garden Notes – Myosotis (#1517) die set, die cut one plate of fowers out of some White Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Color the tips of each flowers with some pale blue ink marker, leaving the centers white.
  • Out of some yellow cardstock, die cut one plate of little centers.
  • Using the tools in the Susan’s Garden 4 Pcs. All Metal Tool Set shape the blue tipped flowers on the Molding Pad.
  • Using an eraser and a toothpick, cup up the little yellow centers. Very lightly, dot the yellow centers with a black fine marker.

Step 5: The Sentiment

  • Die cut the words “It’s” and “Happy” from the die set Words 1 – Celabration (#1465) and the words “Brrrrr” and Joy” from the die set Words 5 – Winter Wishes (#1576), all in yellow cardstock.
  • From the word “Happy”, cut apart the letter “a”.
  • From the “brrrrr”, keep only the “b”.
  • From the “joy”. Keep only the “oy”.
  • Assemble the letters and glue together to write “It’s a boy”.
  • Using some White Soft Finish Cardstock, die cut the banner shown below from the set Banners (#1390).
  • Finalized the card by gluing down the flowers using some Kids Choice Glue, the banner and the sentiment.

Here’s a closer look at the finish card.

I really hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
