Cardmaking Charlene Stamps Inspiration from the Design Team Soft Finish Cardstock

Halloween Coloring

August 29, 2019

One of the things I keep talking about with the new extra large (6×8 inches) stamp set line from designer Charlene Van Der Vorst is that these images were meant to be colored. I mean they were seriously designed with coloring in mind. So you can image my joy when I saw that the new stamp set Halloween Party was not only a large stamp set meant to be colored, but a large stamp set that was meant to be colored and Halloween themed!!!

Today I decided to share a little pictorial tutorial on how I colored these images in with my copics for anyone who is feeling intimidated by the coloring process of such awesome stamps!

Step One: Stamp the bat cat image onto some White Soft Finish Cardstock using copic friendly ink. Create a mask for the image and add it over the stamped image. I use post it tape.

Step Two: Stamp the other images with copic friendly ink over the mask.

Step Three: Peel off the mask.

Step Four: Color the bat cat in. I used C5, C7, and C9 for the cat’s body, W5, W7, and W9 for his wings, and V00, and V01 for his nose and ears.

Step Five: Using a copic friendly pen, add some lines under the pumpkins to mimic the Jack-o-lantern.

Step Six: Color the first two pumpkins in a bold orange color. I used YR61, YR16, and YR68.

Step Seven: Color the second two colors a faded orange. I used YR20, YR24, and YR27.

Step Eight: Color the pumpkin stems with a muted green. I used G43 and G46.

Step Nine: Color the ground using a warm grey. I used W5, W7, and W9. I also colored in the Jack-o-Lanterns teeth with W3 and W5.

Step Ten: Color the background. I used YG13, YG17, YG67, and G99. I also added dots of sparkle gel pen and white gel pen to the background.

Step Eleven: Using 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive, add the colored cardstock to a piece of 6×12 inch Rich Black Soft Finish Cardstock, folded and scored to make a 6×6 card frame.

I hope this series of photos help simplify the coloring process. I am in love with this stamp set and totally have big plans for it beyond just the Halloween card making season and other plans of playing with different coloring mediums with this set.

What coloring mediums would you use to color the Halloween Party Stamp Set? Let us know in the comments below. Until then, Happy Crafting.

I love your card, its so cute and the background color is so different from colors I typically see! I would use inks to color the background and markers to color the images.
