Altered Bottle with Susan’s Hydrangea

February 28, 2017

Hello dear friends, Piyanki  here today to share an altered bottle with you. I am excited I could use Susan’s Garden flowers on something very different. It is the first time I have used Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s dies for something other than cards.

The hydrangea is one of my favourite flowers and I keep going back to it for many of my projects. (You can see a previous one here.)

I hope you’ll find the photos and instructions useful. The star of the composition is the hydrangeas and the ribbon and twigs.

Project Instruction:

  1. Wash and dry an old glass bottle that has an interesting shape. Wrap it with twine. As shown, the bottom section is wrapped with blue and white baker’s twine, the top part with solid blue for contrast. Glue the twine at intervals so it won’t move, keeping the rows close to each other and nice and smooth. Optional: Prior to wrapping the bottle, gesso the surface or paint the areas that will remain visible (the bottom and the rim at the top) using a glass-appropriate paint.
  2. Die cut lots of hydrangea pieces, enough for 3 heads, also several leaves. Shade using Archival inks or markers of choice.
  3. Shape and assemble the hydrangeas. Add a single Prill to each floret.
  4. Glue the hydrangeas to the neck of the bottle as shown, along with twigs and ribbons tucked into the composition. Optional: Wrap and glue a piece of ribbon at the top of the bottle as shown.

It’s a very simple project, lots of fun to make, and I think that the results are beautiful.
