Anyone Need Some Mittens?

October 6, 2018

The best thing about winter for me is layering up!  I love sweaters and cozy flannels…

Though I am too old for mittens, I’d take them if they were offered to me by someone as adorable as this penguin.  I keep using this die set because it is just so cute and so easy to use.  Today the penguin is holding a pair of mittens made with a die set from the new A Way With Words release.  Did you know that Elizabeth Craft Designs also sells self-adhesive velvet sheets?!  It’s a perfect match!  This card came together very quickly. In addition to being a fun card to mail, it would be an extra special way to hint at the contents of a gift box containing gloves or mittens!

Step 1 – Start with a 4.25″ x 5.5″ tent-fold white card base.

Step 2 – Using black ink, stamp “baby it’s cold outside” from the Christmas Collection by Suzanne Cannon toward the bottom of  another piece of white cardstock about a half inch smaller than the card front.

Step 3 – Arrange a small rectangle die so that the sentiment is on bottom to leave room for the penguin; die cut.  Add a mat to this rectangle with the same blue cardstock that will be used for the circle behind the penguin.

Step 4 – Die cut the penguin in the colors shown.  Use the same yellow-orange for the scarf as for the nose and feet.

Step 5 – Out of the light blue Velvet Adhesive Sheet, die cut the mittens from the Flourished Christmas Minis die set.  Carefully snip off the curled ‘string’ connecting the mittens so it can be repositioned below the penguin’s face! Die cut the mitten cuffs and hearts out of white felt and adhere to the mittens. (You will love how soft the velvet and felt look and feel on the card!)

Step 6 – The penguin set also comes with a snow flake die.  Die cut 3 and add to card front.

Thank you for looking and stay warm!
