With Sympathy

May 15, 2016

By Judi Kauffman

Hello, everyone. It’s Judi Kauffman, back as today’s guest designer. Alas, I’ve needed far too many sympathy cards in recent times. It’s always a challenge to come up with something respectful without being too solemn. I think this one hits the mark, the two strips across the front are symbolic of loss, as if the card is a reminder that something beautiful has been broken. The colors are muted, but the Shimmer Sheetz sparkles, as if the card is allowing light to enter a dark time.

I used only two dies for the card: Els van de Burgt Studio’s Ribbons 1, A Way With Words’ With Sympathy. I chose Bronze Metallic Shimmer Sheetz for the words and Fire Opal Gemstone Shimmer Sheetz for the ribbon strip.

Mixed Media Scrapbook Page

May 7, 2016

By Guest Designer, Riikka Kosavin

Hi there and Happy National Scrapbook Day! It’s Riikka here from Paperiliitin guest designing! I’m so excited to be here and play with the Elizabeth Craft Designs products! I’m a mixed media crafter and first started by experimenting with different mediums in my layouts. So I thought I’d do a page of this kind for my post.

Good news! For those of you who want to give this scrapbook layout a go, Elizabeth Craft Designs is helping celebrate National Scrapbook Day by offering a kit that gives you all the ECD supplies you need to make this page. Oh, and free shipping all weekend…

The topic of the page is my older daughter and the funny hat she is wearing. The picture was actually taken last Halloween, but it could also have been from May Day as my daughter’s preschool had “wear a funny hat” day then.

As well as the photo, I took inspiration for this page from Els van de Burgt Studio’s Ribbons 1 die set as I immediately saw it as a design element for a scrapbooking page. Let’s get started! Continue Reading

Field of Poppies

Field of Poppies
By Judi Kauffman

Hello, everbody. It’s Judi Kauffman, back as Guest Designer with four cards that can be made with a single sheet of Flower in Frame black outline peel-offs. One of my favorite memories of a trip to California was seeing an entire field of poppies in bloom. Red, red, and more red…kind of like the stadium during a football game in Lincoln, Nebraska – only silent instead of deafening!

Springtime Dogwoods

April 29, 2016

By Jeanette Horner

Hello, its Jeanette here for Susan’s Garden Club. Remembering the old barn in a neighbors field, and every spring this beautiful old dogwood tree, bloomed so beautiful against the barn. I think of it in the springtime and wonder if it is still there. The limbs would fall across the old door, with the old iron hinges and old leather strap, for a handle. This inspired the card…

Shimmer Sheetz Love & Leaves Card

April 17, 2016

By Judi Kauffman

Hello, everyone! It’s Judi Kauffman, back as today’s guest designer with a card that would be perfect for a wedding or un-Valentine (those times when romance is in the air, but it’s not February…). The starring roles are played by the word ‘Love’, a die from Suzanne Cannon’s A Way With Words collection, and my new best friend – Joset Design’s strawberry leaves die. Supporting roles are played by the 2.75” Stitched Square die and a .25” circle die from one of the Tags & More sets.

Judi Loves Berries: A Strawberry Tutorial

April 3, 2016

By Judi Kauffman

Hello, all! It’s Judi Kauffman, back as today’s Guest Designer. I love strawberries, so imagine my glee when I saw the Joset Designs Strawberries die set. It’s irresistible, just like the berries that will soon arrive at the farmers’ markets and make their way to our kitchens. With ice cream, starring in shortcake, chocolate-dipped, sprinkled with powdered sugar, or straight out of the box – this is a fruit that defines summer and happiness!

A Dozen Shimmer Sheetz Easter Eggs

March 20, 2016

I like to make flat egg-shaped Shimmer Sheetz ornaments to send in my Easter cards. Sometimes I’ll use Elizabeth Craft Designs Easter Egg outline peel-offs as the starting point. This year it’s the new Joset Designs Easter Eggs die set that stole my heart.

As always, I’ve worked within a quirky color palette – Fire Opal, Australian Opal, Turquoise, and Ruby Gemstone and Bronze Metallic among my choices, but all of the eggs could be switched to bright hues or soft pastels. Shimmer Sheetz is available in over 20 colors including Iridescent in two shades of pink, white, purple, green, yellow, bright orange and red. An Iridescent Sampler Pack might be a fun way to have lots of choices.

Reminders: Shimmer Sheetz is waterproof and colorfast, as are the Glitter Dots and other peel-offs used for the eggs. These ornaments (except for the strawberry eggs) can be hung in the garden as well as displayed indoors. A Metal Adaptor Plate or Precision Base Plate is required for die cutting Shimmer Sheetz.

Circle Butterfly Card
By Els van de Burgt

finishedproject

This card is all about playing with circles! I combined Fitted Frames, Stitched Circles and Fitted Circles for the layers and mixed in Through the Lens Wood and Metal Series patterned cardstock. The finished card is flat and measure 5.25”. To display it, I die cut an Easel/Card Stand from 100lb White Soft Finish Cardstock, covered with Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the front so I could glitter it to match the sparkle of the butterfly.
