Hello, it is Christine here today with a card that I created for Breast Cancer Awareness as October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This card is dedicated to our very own wonderful designer Susan Tierney-Cockburn in memory of her daughter Kelly and to all those that have been affected by breast cancer.
My idea for this card started with a local news report on a gentleman from a couple of towns over from us who grows a field of pink pumpkins each year and, once harvested, sells the pumpkins and donates all proceeds to Relay for Life. I started with a pinkish pumpkin using Susan’s new Garden Notes French Pumpkin and then added in a couple more of her new releases – Garden Notes Helenium and Feverfew 1.
Here is how the card was created.
Step 1 – Cut 2 Garden Notes Berry Branch from green cardstock, Shade with Distress Ink. Using Nuvo Crystal Drops – Rhubarb Crumble add berries to branch and set aside to dry. When dry add berries to back so they will be 3D – let dry again.
Step 2 – From White Soft Finish Cardstock using new release Garden Notes Helenium cut petals for 3 flowers. Cut tiny florets from brown cardstock and the leaves from green cardstock. Color, shape. Build flowers using Kids Choice Glue. For coloring as shown, use Copic markers RV17 & YR04 for petals and YR04 for the sun-shaped center pieces. Here is a link to Susan’s video for making the Helenium.
Step 3 From White Soft Finish Cardstock cut petals for 8 Feverfew flowers using new Garden Notes Feverfew 1 die set. Cut 2 stems from green cardstock and small florets from yellow cardstock. Shade, shape; using Kids Choice Glue, assemble flowers on stems. Here is a link to Susan’s video on making Feverfew.
Step 4 From green carstock cut 1 branch using Garden Notes Lavender die set. Cut plate of little florets 8-10 times from yellowish gold cardstock. Lay right side up on shaping pad and use a toothpick or tiny stylus to cup each one. Using Kids Choice Glue, add florets to branch.
Step 5 Cut 2 pumpkins & lids from White Soft Finish Cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive on back using new Garden Notes French Pumpkin. Adhere 1 on top of other. Color using Copic Markers RV11 & YR02.
Step 6 Cut the word Hope once from pink cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the back and once from black cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the back. Adhere black on top of pink, offset to create a pink drop-shadow effect. Die cut 2 ribbons from pink cardstock, one with Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the back. Cut piece of 18 gauge floral wire about 3-1/2″ long and sandwich the wire between the two ribbons.
Step 7 Form a 5″ x 7″ top-fold card base. Optional: Emboss card front if you have a large enough embossing folder.
Step 8 Build Card – Start with the pumpkin, pinching it slightly so it is rounded. Use dimensional foam squares toward the center to hold the shape. Using Kids Choice Glue, adhere Golden Rod and pieces of the berry branch. Next add Feverfew branches and Helenium, then add the leaves for both Helenium as well as Feverfew. Add wire with pink ribbon to the top of the arrangement. Adhere Hope to the right of the flowers. Add pumpkin lid and leaf.
I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial today and it has inspired you to make your own version of this card.
