Cheers Card

November 7, 2020

Hey Crafters! Katelyn here, sharing with you my Cheers Card.

To create my Cheers Card, I’ve used a variety of dies from Suzanne Cannon and Joset Designs. You’ll want to read below as I share with you how to recreate my card at home.

Step One. Choose two pieces of coordinating Christmas Patterned Paper. From the first patterned paper, die cut a 3 1/2″ Stitched Indented Rectangle. out of the second patterned paper, die cut a 3″ Stitched Indented Rectangle. Ink the edges of both rectangles using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Two. From a piece of coordinating cardstock, die cut a 3 1/4″ Fitted Indented Rectangle. Ink the edges of the rectangle using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Three. Die cut the Flourished Oval Frame out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Apply Emboss It Ink to the frame and sprinkle Gothic Black Modern Gilding Powder over the entire surface of the frame. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Step Four. Die cut the Cheers word out of White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step Five. From the Entwined Circles, die cut the snowflake five times out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Apply a Transp. Glitter/Gold Dot to the center of each snowflake.

Step Six. Adhere the 3″ rectangle to the 3 1/4″ rectangle. Foam square the 3 1/4″ rectangle to the 3 1/2″ rectangle.

Step Seven. Foam square the flourished frame to the middle of the 3″ rectangle. Adhere the Cheers word to the middle of the frame.

Step Eight. Adhere the snowflakes as desired around the word on the frame.

Step Nine. Cut a cardbase out of White Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 3 1/2″ x 9 1/2″, score at 4 3/4″. Adhere the cardfront to the cardbase.

Thanks for joining me today! I hope that I’ve inspired you to create your own version of my Cheers Card.

October 24, 2020

Hey Friends! It’s EK and I am popping in with a brand new card With Halloween almost here and over, it means it is time to start looking forward the most fun crafting season of all, Christmas. So today I thought I would whip up a quick little card inviting you and others to the holiday season! And one of the best ways to get into the holiday spirit is with the A Way With Words line of dies and stamps.

Step One: Using some yupo paper and alcohol ink, create a holiday themed background. I used Watermelon and Bottle Ranger Alcohol Ink and Mined Alloy Alcohol ink. Let dry.

Step Two: Trim a piece of 90lb Soft Finish Cardstock to 4.25×5.5 inches. Die cut the A Way With Words Flourished Deer die from the center of the cardstock.

Step Three: Using 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive, adhere the negative space die cut 4.25×5.5 inch cardstock over the yupo paper.

Step Four: Place the Flourished Deer die cut back into the negative space. Using Kids Choice Glue, add the negative die cuts back into the blank spaces of the deer.

Step Five: Let Glue Dry.

Step Six: Die cut both the A Way With Words You’re Invited die and the Flourished Holly dies. Blend ink over the two die cuts. I used both Festive Berries and Pine Needle Distress Oxides. Adhere the Holly die cuts with Kids Choice Glue.

Step Seven: Adhere the yupo paper to an A2 card frame using 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive. Using Kids Choice Glue, adhere the Flourished Holly die cut to the card frame.

Step Eight: Adhere with Kids Choice Glue the You’re Invited die cut.

Step Nine: Add Pearl Rose Craft Drops to the card. Let dry.

I hope you are just as excited as I am about the up coming holiday crafting season. There are so many exciting new holiday things coming so make sure you stay tuned for all the new holiday releases! Until then, happy crafting.

Ribbon Streamers Congratulations Card

October 17, 2020

Hey Artlets! It’s Suzanne here today!  Do you have a collection of gorgeous ribbons that are languishing away in a drawer, un-used but still loved?  That would be me!  So I decided I should think of some uses for them that didn’t involve bow-making.  (Like flower arranging, I’m hopeless at bow-making.)

Well what about 3D streamers? Here is what we can do!

First thing is to decide what ribbon you want to use.  You only need a small amount – 6” will do fine.  Depending on the length of your sentiment, you will want to choose between 5 and 7 ribbons.  Choose different colours and textures.  They should be double-sided ribbon as you will see both sides of the ribbon.

Now choose some cardstock.  It might be easiest to go with plain cardstock, but I had this patterned paper from the Fly & Scrap Collection that I thought would be fun and cheery.

Now let’s get down to the nitty gritty….!

Form an 8.5 x 3.75” tent-fold card base from cardstock or patterned paper. (It’s a slimeline card!)

Cut a panel 7.5 x 3” panel from coordinating cardstock.

Cut 7 pieces of ribbon measuring 5” each.  Lay the ribbon out like streamers on your panel in the order you prefer, giving them a single or double twist over the face of the panel.

Use Removable Tape to temporarily position the ribbons on the back. This way you can change your mind about their angle or number of twists.  When you’re happy with their position, use Clear Double Sided Adhesive to permanently adhere the ribbon to the panel.

Die cut Congratulations three times from three coordinating cardstocks. Adhere them together behind the C, the u and the n where it joins with the s at the end of the word. Use small pieces of rolled Clear Double Sided Adhesive or rolled Glue Dots. They don’t have to be a perfect stack, so a little colour peaking out makes it interesting.  I used the white diecut on the top so there was lots of contrast with the ribbon and cardstock.

Center Congratulations on the panel and adhere to the ribbons where they contact the back of the diecut so it “floats” on the ribbon.

Adhere the ribbon panel to the card base with foam adhesive.  And voila!  A card that is bright and a little bit different.

I’d love to see what you make using this technique!  Make sure you tag me on the Elizabeth Craft Design Family Facebook page so I don’t miss it!

Happy Creating! Suzanne

Always and Forever

October 10, 2020

How many COVID weddings have you attended in 2020? If there was ever a time to make a special wedding card, this is the year! I know many brides who have had to change their wedding plans to something smaller and even online. I had a great time making this card to suit someone in particular – a bit rustic, a touch of blush with some elegant lettering.

I started with some paper from the Through the Lens-Wood which I think is discontinued but the new Worn Wood collection is just beautiful and would work also. I lightly sponged the edges of this Florals 1 dies with a light pink ink and the leaves from Florals 2 with different shades of green Distress Oxide Inks. The paper is muted with a sheet of vellum (glued on the corners which will be where the flowers go so that the glue markings will be hidden) so that the words will pop a little more.

I like to have all my pieces cut and colored so they are ready to go. I’ve also learned that having extras is faster going back and preparing them.

I glued all my pieces as shown above, adding some trimmed off berry branches. As you can see, I used some white craft drops for the berries. The center of the flowers I used some light yellow chunky glitter. I did not like the end results much so I went back and added a ring of glue around the yellow glitter to add a green chunky glitter. I love it now!

The flowers frame a simple white sentiment made from different word dies – I do love mixing up these dies to form my own sentiment.

Before I popped it onto my 5 x 7 card base, I did add a bit of olive green matting to my wood piece.

I love how dimensional this card is and that all the colors are a bit muted.

Thank you so much for looking!

Metallic toned cards

October 8, 2020

Hello everyone, it´s Sanna here again today with my October guest team member post. I am a big fan of white cardstock, because you can do so much with it. So this time I wanted to show you a simple idea how you can create different toned metallic shaded cards really easy with just a few steps.

Here is how this cards are done:

Step 1: Take the “Heart” background die and one or two “A Way With Words” word dies out. Take a sheet of White Soft Finish Cardstock and apply a sheet of Clear Double Sided Adhesive sheet onto the backside. Leave the foil on.
Step 2: Place the paper and the die cut dies into your die cutting machine and build a sandwich according to the instrucktions of your particular machine. Die cut 3 (or more) background pieces and as many sentiments as you have backgrounds.
Step 3: Now remove all negative elements from your white cardstock pieces.

Step 4: Place the die cut pieces on a kraft mat and apply a metallic paste with a blending brush in circular motion onto your die cut pieces. I used a pearl, a silver and a gold tone on the 3 cards I created and for the sentiments I tried to match each patterned paper tone, so I used bronze, pink and blue on those.
Step 5: Now adhere the tinted background pieces onto a patterned paper of your choice and adhere the sentiment on top. Decorate for example with half pearls, dimentional pearls or rhinestones. Finally, adhere to a card base.

This simple idea can be used with various background dies to add a little different look to your cards. The nice surface texture of the Soft Finish Cardstock also shows thru after tinting the paper which adds a really nice look to the cards.

I´ve again recorded a video to give you a better idea of the steps – hope you like it!

I hope you could inspire you to play more with your dies and white Soft Finish Cardstock. There are so many possibilities to add some color to it, this is just one of them.

I´ll be back with another card idea again next month! See you then.

Happy crafting,
Sanna

Home for the Holidays Card

October 3, 2020

Hey Crafters! Katelyn here, sharing with you my Home for the Holidays Card.

To create my Home for the Holidays Card, I’ve used a variety of dies from Suzanne Cannon and Joset Designs. You’ll want to read below as I share with you how to recreate my card at home.

Step One. Choose two pieces of Christmas patterned paper. From the first patterned paper, die cut a 4″ Stitched Rounded Rectangle. From the second patterned paper, die cut a 3 1/2″ Stitched Rounded Rectangle. Ink the edges of both rectangles using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Step Two. Die cut the Flourished Frame out of White Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step Three. From the Love, Joy & Peace Christmas Ornament die, die cut the Christmas Ornament out of a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Apply a coat of Emboss It Ink to the ornament. Sprinkle Copper Scroll Modern Gilding Powder over the entire surface of the ornament. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Step Four. Die cut a 2 1/4″ Stitched Circle out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. From the Let Your Heart Be Light Stamp Set, you’ll need the Home for the Holidays stamp. Apply Emboss It Ink to the stamp and stamp in the middle of the stitched circle. Sprinkle Gothic Black Modern Gilding Powder over the stamped sentiment and tap off the excess powder. Emboss with a heat tool.

Step Five. Die cut all the pieces from the Flourished Holly Die out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Walnut Stain Distress Ink over the entire surface of the flourished piece. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Fired Brick Distress Ink over the entire surface of the berry piece. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Forest Moss Distress Ink over the entire surface of all of the holly leaves.

Step Six. On a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock, apply Emboss It Ink to it. Sprinkle Forever Platinum Modern Gilding Powder over the entire surface of the cardstock. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Die cut the stars from the Peace on Earth die out of the embossed paper. You’ll need only three stars.

Step Seven. Adhere the flourished frame to the 4″ rectangle. Adhere the 3 1/2″ rectangle to the 4″ rectangle.

Step Eight. Adhere the Christmas ornament to the Home for the Holidays stitched circle. Foam square the ornament to the middle of the 3 1/2″ rectangle.

Step Nine. Adhere the Flourished Holly together. Foam square the flourished holly to the top of the Christmas Ornament.

Step Ten. Adhere the stars around the Christmas ornament as desired.

Step Eleven. To finish the card, cut a cardbase out of White Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 4″ x 10 1/2″, score at 5 1/4″. Adhere the cardfront to the cardbase.

Thanks for joining me today! I hope that I’ve inspired you to create your own version of my Home for the Holidays Card.

Perfect

September 26, 2020

Hey Friends! It’s EK, and I am popping in today to create a little card for a teenage lady who needs a little reminder of how awesome she is. I often find that crafting for that delicate age of 14-18 is really difficult. However, I think the flourishes and elegance of the A Way With Words collection is perfect for connecting with young women of this age demographic.

Step One: Trim a piece of 90lb Soft Finish Cardstock to 4.25×5.5 inches. Place the A Way With Stencils Flourished Frame on a diagonal and blend dark blue ink. I used Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxides.

Step Two: Die cut the large butterfly from the A Way With Words Butterfly Flourish. Apply a temporary adhesive to the back of the die to cut to create a mask, and blend into over the die cut. I used Dusty Concord in Distress Oxide.

Step Three: Peel off the Butterfly Flourish die cut mask.

Step Four: Blend more blue ink around the edges of the cardstock. I used Stormy Sky Distress Oxide. Spray the whole image with shimmer spray. Let dry.

Step Five: Blend ink over a piece of scrap 90lb Soft Finish Cardstock. I used Chipped Sapphire and Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide. Die cut the A Way With Words You Are Perfect die set.

Step Six: Adhere the You Are Perfect die cut to the background using Kids Choice Glue. Using a white gel pen, add highlights to the side of the adhered die cut.

Step Seven: Adhere the background to an A2 card frame using 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive. Add a few crafts drops using the Metallic Silver Craft Drops.

I just love how this super simple card turned out. There is just the right amount of girly, and the perfect amount of support for the young lady who will be receiving it.

Let us know in the comments below what kind of ECD supplies you use when crafting for 14-18 year old young women? Until then, happy crafting.

Autumn Pairings

September 19, 2020

Happy autumn, artlets! Last month I created a series of projects using “Summer” from the 4 Seasons die set: Summer in Our Hearts.  This month, I will share some projects using “Autumn” from the same 4 Seasons die set and combine it with other dies from the A Way With Words Collection.

Let’s have a closer look….

The first card (above) combines Autumn and “Bliss”.  Of course this card could use any of the season dies and you could just change the colour of the Alcohol Inks to get the effect you want.  This card front was made by spreading Alcohol Blending Solution on Yupo paper and droppering in Sunset Orange, Lettuce, Terra Cotta and Butterscotch Alcohol inks.  You never know what you’re going to get!  I die cut Autumn and Bliss from extra inked pieces and backed both words with light green and pale orange cardstocks to lift them off the page a bit.  There is a little peak of a flourish along the side, cut from the Flourished Heart in Calligraphic Elements 2.  This card measures 5 x 7”.

My next card is a photo card using a picture I took on a hike in 2016 on a perfect day in the Canadian Rockies.  The larches were brilliant yellowy orange.  I didn’t want to cover up any of the photo, so it became a larger card than expected at 6 x 9.5”.  I just chose coordinating colours of card stock to die cut the words and to mount the photo.  So simple!  This is going up on our mantle till the next amazing photo.  “Amazing” is from the Amazing Beautiful die set.  Of course, I could have used Beautiful instead of Amazing and it would have worked perfectly.  It’s another super useful set from the A Way With Words Collection.

For this Autumn Fun card, I let the patterned paper do the heavy lifting for me.  This paper is really busy!  I used the Flourished Oval Frame in the center of the card and added Autumn and Fun (from the Fun Play die set).  I blended some Distress inks on the words which always creates a nice effect. To help the words stand out from that busy background, I cut the Flourished Oval Frame from vellum and used the inside on this card front.  It worked perfectly! This card measures 5 x 7”.

My final combination today is Autumn + Garden (from My Garden Flowers die set) for a planner page. I see an all-season photo planner in my future! I’ve again used the Flourished Oval Frame and overlaid it with the words and some paper flowers I purchased.  I went for a muted look here, but you could do the same layout with bright autumn colours.

So here are some other combinations you might not have thought of. Some of them you’ve seen already in the previous season blog post:

Autumn Memories
Unforgettable Autumn

Autumn Smiles (perfect for a scrapbook page!)
