Winter Wishes Slimline Card

October 15, 2020

Hi everyone, it’s Tina here. Slimline cards are the rage right now and I will show you that dies originally made for A2 sized cards can be used on Slimline cards. I am using the Village Edges die as an example. Below you will find the steps to created your own Winter Wishes Slimline Card.

Step 1 – Trim White Soft Finish Cardstock to 7″ x 8 1/2″, score at 3 1/2″ and fold in half for a vertical side fold card. (Slimline)

Step 2 – Trim White Soft Finish Cardstock to 3 1/4″ x 8 1/4″. Apply Distress Oxide Ink using a Foam Applicator starting a little bit past the half way with the lightest shade, then working up to darkest. Tumbled Glass, Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire, Black Soot.

Step 3 – Diecut Village Edges 2 times for each die. One diecutting from the left and the second one from the right. Loosely layer first on the background created in Step 2 to see where the top one will be positioned. Adhere 1st layer (top) using 3mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape, 2nd layer using Foam Tape, 3rd layer using 3mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive and last (bottom) layer using Foam Tape.

Step 4 – Stamp Snow sentiment using Versamark to the panel created in Step 2. Sprinkle Gold Embossing Powder and remove the excess. Heat set it with a Heat Tool.

Step 5 – Optional – Apply Perfect Pearls in Gold onto an Acrylic Block, add a spritz of water, mix with a #2 paintbrush and tap the waterbrush onto the panel to create Gold Droplets. Keep repeating until you cover the panel. Let dry (it doesn’t take too long to dry). Adhere the panel to the card front using 3mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive.

This card can be used for several occasions by changing the colors and/or sentiment. For example color in the houses and change the sentiment to Congratulations on your new Home. Below is a link to all the products used. Thank you for stopping by and Happy Crafting!

Happy Birthday To You Card

August 3, 2020

Hi everyone, it’s Tina here. The new Fairy release has 3 new Background dies. Organic Triangles, Floral Burst and Leaf Pattern. I love background dies because you can diecut and use them as is or they can be used as a stencil. Background dies make it super easy to create any occasion cards in no time at all. Just diecut the background die, applying ink before or after and add a big bold sentiment. Below you will find the steps to create your own Happy Birthday to You card.

Step 1 – Trim White Soft Finish Cardstock to 8 1/2” x 5 1/2”, score at 4 1/4” and fold in half for a vertical side fold card. (A2)

Step 2 – Trim White Soft Finish Cardstock to 5 1/2” x 4 1/4”. Diecut Floral Burst Background. The diecut will be your stencil.

Step 3 – Trim White Soft Finish Cardstock to 5 1/2” x 4 1/4”. Apply Ink of your choice filling the Cardstock. I inked using the colours of a rainbow. I used Distress Oxide Inks. Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed, Wild Honey, Ripe Persimmon, Dusty Concord, Tumbled Glass, Moved Lawn, Cracked Pistachio.

Step 4 – Place the stencil created from Step 2 on top of the panel. I used some Pixie Spray on the backside and some Painter’s Tape to secure it. Apply Black Ink all over. Remove the stencil. This technique is called a Reverse Stencil Technique. Trim the edges and adhere to the card front using 3mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

Step 5 – Stamp Hello sentiment onto White Soft Finish Cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black Ink. Trim the edges and adhere to card using Foam Tape.

Step 6 – Optional – For added interest and sparkle randomly adhere Jewels.

This card can be used for many occasions by changing the colours and sentiment. The Floral Burst Background die will be available in the shop this week. Below is a link to the product list. Thank you for stopping by and Happy Crafting.

Watercolor “Bokeh” easily!

July 5, 2020

Hi,  Joyce Schmidt here! I am so happy to spend this year designing with Elizabeth Craft Designs!

When I think of photography the first technique that come to my mind is the “bokeh” technique. This phenomenon occurs when too much light enters the lens and the picture is blurry, but the beautiful circles of light that are left are beautiful! I wanted to replicate that using watercolor.

Here’s how I created the Bokeh backgrounds:

1. Cut six pieces of Elizabeth Craft Designs watercolor paper into two 4×5″ pieces.

2. I used a washi tape (or painter’s tape) to tape a border around my yardstick and to hold it down as a frame for the background. (tip: this makes your piece look cleaner but it is not essential.)

This is how I prep my card stock to paint this technique

3. Saturate the paper with clean water and a soft brush. You want the paper to be really wet layer color on a little at a time so that the colors and blend with the water.

Layer color on a little at a time so that the colors and blend with water.

4. I used my Elizabeth Craft Designs watercolor set to drop on color allowing it to spread onto the paper naturally. All you do at this point is watch is spread and add color or water as you want.

5. After it is completely dry, then use stencil to create dots. I created a stencil with different sizes of circles so that I could replicate the bokeh look. It needs to have many different sizes no bigger that 1.5″ in diameter.

6. Use a good quality white pigment ink and sponge dauber the ink into the circles, overlapping them and variegating the intensity of the ink you add to each circle.

7. After completing your bokeh dots, dry completely with heat tool. this will allow you to not smear your dots!

8. To complete the card I stamped it with the “You got this” stamp from Sue Smith’s collection of Stamp from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

Image with stamped image on it.

For more information on how to do this technique, make sure to watch my video tutorial HERE.

I hope you feel inspired to try this fun technique yourself. Choose some pretty colors and create your own Bokeh background – The possibilities are endless!

Joyce
