Clean and Simple Cards in No Time

March 11, 2018

Hello everyone,

It´s Sanna here with another guest designer post. Have you ever been in a situation when you need a card on really short notice? Or want to quickly make a masculine card? I thought I´d share a few simple ideas I like to use when these occasions occur.

I have created three simple card ideas that can be varied in style by changing the papers and colors or by choosing alternative dies. Here are the instructions:

Instructions for the first card:

Step 1 – Choose two ModaScrap Manly Man 6×6 inch paper pack.

Step 2 – Place one of the papers into the die cutting machine and die cut a border with the Valentines Edges dies as shown in the photo above.

Step 3 – Adhere a piece of the second paper to a white A2 top-fold card base, leaving the bottom third of the care base white.

Step 4 – Adhere the die cut border with the top edge overlapping the contrasting paper and making sure that the bottom edge of the border is overlapping the white part of the card.

Step 5 – Using black ink, stamp the “You’re Amazing” sentiment from the Sentiments 2 – Just Because clear stamp set below the die cut border off-center toward the right edge of the card front.

Step 6 – Using a black pen, add some faux stitching at the top, right and left of the patterned paper. Adhere a wood veneer arrow embellishment to the left of the sentiment.

Instructions for the second card:

Step 1 – Choose two papers from the ModaScrap Sailor´s Life 6×6 inch paper pack.

Step 2 – Using dies from the Stitched Stars set, die cut one paper with every other die and the second paper with the remaining alternating size dies. Refer to photos above for placement of dies during cutting. (You’ll only be die cutting twice to get all of the pieces.)

Step 3 – Arrange and adhere the die cut star pieces onto a white A2 side-fold card base. Angle the stars and position as shown – they will extend at the top toward the right corner as well as along the right side. Patterns alternate. Notice that there are 3 stars cut from each of the two papers selected in step 1.

Step 4 – Use a black pen to add faux running stitch around the edges. Using black ink, add a sentiment from the Sentiments 2 – Just Because clear stamp set. As a finishing touch, add an adhesive-backed rhinestone in the middle of the smallest star.

Instructions for the third card:

Step 1 – Take a white card base and adhere a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive onto the front.

Step 2 – Using the Garden Notes – Ladder Fern dies set, cut 7 ferns from ModaScrap Magic Mountain paper.

Step 3 – Expose the adhesive. Carefully place the die cut ferns onto the surface, taking great care not to touch the adhesive with your fingers. Tip: Use a piece of the release sheet to help smooth the ferns onto the exposed adhesive – I call this an ‘adhering aid’! (The goal is to avoid fingerprints and keep the oils in your skin from making the adhesive less sticky.)

Step 4 – After all leaves are in place, pour Go To Green Silk Microfine Glitter over the adhesive. Brush away excess glitter with a soft brush and pour it back into the jar. Gently polish the glitter with a fingertip to bring out the maximum sparkle. Be careful not to accidentally tear the ferns. Tip: Polish toward the glitter, not toward the die cut papers.

Step 5 – Using black ink, stamp a sentiment onto White Soft Finish Cardstock. Trim to just above and below the words and to the width of the card front. Adhere to the card with Clear Double Sided Adhesive tape.

Step 6 – Use a black pen to accent the stamped rectangle with faux stitching.

By keeping the designs very simple, these cards are super fast to create. Since the design is clean, they work well as a masculine card, too. Depending on the recipient and the occasion, simply change the papers, sentiments and colors and you can use these basic ideas over and over again!

I hope you enjoyed this month’s 3-card tutorial. See you again in April!
Have fun creating,
Sanna
