Dec.25 Gift Card

Dec.25 Gift Card by Suzanne Cannon

Hi Artlings! It’s Suzanne back with a little card that could easily become a full-sized card.  This design was one of my Make n’ Takes at the Great Canadian Scrapbook Carnival in Edmonton a few weeks ago. Here, we are using plain squares to represent a boxed present.  The secret in elevating this simple card design to the impressive level is to coordinate all the elements!  Choose the card base and colours for the die cut word layers and patterned paper; top it off  with a hand-dyed ribbon in the same colour palette.

Here is how you can make this card:

Instructions:Dec.25 Gift Card supplies by Suzanne Cannon

  1. Form a tent-fold card base measuring 4 x 5” from green cardstock. You can get three cards from a 12 x 12” piece of cardstock.
  2. Die cut Dec.25 twice, once from red and once from gold cardstock. Cut two square panels measuring 2-1/8”, one from patterned paper and one from gold cardstock. For additional interest, you could use the Fitted Squares and/or the Stitched Squares dies.
  3. Attach the gold Dec.25 diecut behind the red die cut, slightly offset to create the illusion of a drop shadow, using tiny pieces of Clear Double Sided Adhesive. Designer Tip: If you roll the tape between your fingers, it makes the adhesive area smaller and gives the die cut a little dimension. Similarly attach the gold square behind the patterned paper using Clear Double Sided Adhesive to form the present (gift box).
  4. Adhere the present to the card base with foam adhesive tape to give dimension and adhere the layered Dec.25 die cuts with more tiny pieces of tape. If you are mailing this card, you might not want to use foam tape! (Or go for it and spring for some extra postage if it exceeds the allowable thickness…)
  5. Tie a bow with coordinating ribbon and adhere it to the top of the present. This ribbon was made by hand-dying white ribbon with Aged Mahogany Distress Ink.

This card is so simple and so sweet. There is no end to the variations you could make!  Have fun!
