Dreams of Hydrangeas

July 31, 2017

Hi everyone! Angela here. For today’s project I have opted to go with a tag using Tags and More 7 – Vine, Susan’s Garden Notes Hydrangea 2, as well as the CountryScapes – Country Fence 1 and Elizabeth Craft’s Leafy Branch. The grass and sky background were created using CountryScapes – Clouds and Grass.

Step 1. Die cut the tag from 85lb Soft Finish Cardstock using the Tags and More 7 – Vine die set. Create grass and cloud templates using the CountryScrapes Clouds & Grass die and use these templates to sponge on the background with PanPastels.

Step 2. Cut the pieces for the hydrangea using the Garden Notes Hydrangea 2 die set, cutting the flower petals three times per flower to be sure to have nice full hydrangea heads, and the stems twice to create dimension. Colour the pieces using Copic markers. (Note: I left some white on each of the floret pieces.)

To give the flowers dimension use the large ball stylus to cup the top section of the stem piece to create a rounded dome on which to glue the flowers. Glue the shaped stem to the flat one with Kids Choice Glue. Shape each flower using the small ball stylus and glue them to the stem piece. Repeat this for each hydrangea head. Set them aside while the glue dries.

Step 3. Die cut two Country Fence pieces from White Soft Finish Cardstock backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive prior to cutting. Colour one darker than the other. Attach the lightter to the darker, overlapping so they are just slightly offset to create the illusion of a shadow. Adhere the fence to the tag.

Step 4.  Die cut two of the Leafy Branches and colour them using Copic Markers. Adhere to the tag with Kids Choice Glue. Then arrange and adhere the hydrangea heads, hydrangea leaves, and leafy branches.

Step 5. Sponge the edges of the tag with Distress Ink.

Step 6. Stamp the sentiment from the Dreams Sentiments Clear Stamp set to the top right hand corner of the tag using black ink.

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.

Hi Angela, This tag is stunning !! I adore the hydrangea dies, they are so realistic and so dimensional. I have just started a card using the ‘teacup and saucer’, and I am going to put the hydrangea die-cuts into the teacup.
Lots of love from Patricia xx

Patricia, I’m so glad you like the tag. It was great fun to make! The hydrangea in the tea cup should be gorgeous. Don’t forget to post a picture on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Family Facebook page!

I adore this! Believe it or not I’m working on Susan’s 994 Hydrangea right now and got the email of this post. I hopped over to make sure my card doesn’t look like I copied yours! This is adorable and our projects aren’t anything alike other than we both used Hydrangeas.

How gorgeous – I absolutely love your hydrangeas! They look very realistic with the parts you left white. Lovely background to showcase your flowers. Thank you for the inspiration!
