Entwined Circles Shimmer Sheetz Ornament

I love making flat Shimmer Sheetz ornaments. They provide a lot of sparkle to the tree, look great on a door or in a window, or suspended from a branch on a holiday table, plus they’re lightweight, quite durable, easy to mail in a standard envelope – tucked inside a card or with a small gift tag added to the hanging loop.

This one came together by serendipity. I knew I wanted to nest all three sizes of Entwined Circles for a single ornament, but I hadn’t envisioned incorporating the curved scraps until I was about to throw them away… Instead, I saved them and used them to create a cluster that resembles pine needles.

A second cluster, snowflakes and flowers layered together and accented with half-pearls, plus a loop of metallic cord, completes the top section of the ornament as shown above.

I used two flower and two snowflake dies from the Entwined Ovals die set, but there is a snowflake in the Entwined Circles set, too. Or you can mix in any small flowers or snowflakes from other ECD die sets – there are many choices! (For a totally flat ornament substitute Glitter Dots peel-offs for the half-pearls.)

TIP: Use non-stick scissors to cut tiny slivers from Tombow Power Adhesive Tabs and use the slivers to secure all of the layers and pieces. Power Tabs provide a super strong hold as well as adding a bit of dimension.

Add flat-back faceted gems added to the small round spots on the Entwined Circles to complete the ornament. (For a totally flat ornament substitute Glitter Dots or Glitter Flowers peel-offs for the gems.)

IMPORTANT REMINDER: A metal adaptor plate or Sizzix Big Shot machine with Precision Base Plate is REQUIRED for die cutting Shimmer Sheetz! Please review Els van de Burgt’s YouTube tutorial if you are new to die cutting Shimmer Sheetz.

MAILING: The finished ornament is a perfect fit for an A7 envelope, the size used for 5” x 7” cards. To make ornaments that fit A2 envelopes, the size used for 4.25” x 5.5” cards, incorporate only the two smaller Entwined Circles OR switch to the pair of Entwined Ovals!

OPTIONS:

Instead of Fire Opal Gemstone Shimmer Sheetz use one or more other colors to customize the ornament to suit your taste and décor.

Instead of the cluster of snowflakes and flowers add a simple bow at the top of the trio of Entwined Circles.

For a more ‘vintage’ look and to tone down the sparkle, lightly sand the Shimmer Sheetz BEFORE die cutting. For a mottled vintage look, alter Shimmer Sheetz with alcohol inks after sanding and die cutting.
