Be the Sunshine: Garden Notes Black-Eyed Susan

December 7, 2017

Dear Friends,

Today I present to you a card that I just loved creating. The Black-Eyed Susan is such a special part of the Susan’s Garden collection, and like other flowers in the sunflower family it symbolizes radiant warmth and faith.

I thought that the sentiment, “Be the sunshine in someone’s rainy day,” was the perfect way to express my idea: Every person can be just like the sun shining on a sunflower, providing reassurance and emanating positive energy and strength, elevating a loved one’s mood.

Here’s the process of creating this card:

Card size 6″x 4.75″ with a side fold.

Step 1 – Cut a Circle Background from white cardstock and adhere to the card front.

Step 2 – Using the Garden Notes – Black-Eyed Susan die set, cut enough pieces to create four flowers: White cardstock for the petals, black for the centers, green for the leaves. Color the petals with Sunflower Archival Ink. Shape and assemble the flowers.

Step 3 – Die cut some Ostrich Fern and Maidenhair Fern pieces and shape them.

Step 4 – Arrange and adhere the ferns, leaves and flowers as shown in the photo. Glue some fine threads into the arrangement for an added detail.

Step 5 -Using black ink, stamp the sentiment onto white paper. Cut the paper into a the strip with about an inch on either end. Curve it gently upward and the middle and rolled forward like a scroll at the ends. Adhere to the top of the card using glue at the ends and foam tape in the middle to keep the curve from flattening. Optional: Add some clear gems within some of the circles in the background.
